One of my favorites from DB. A bold beer. I was surprised that the BU is only 31. I would've guessed around 50, but then again, I'm not an expert. The red/amber coloring and lacing are a thing of beauty. I'm not sure this is an all seasons beer for me, though. Definitely fall and winter, though.

Bronze Medal, 2004 World Beer Cup

Pours to a deep crimson/amber color and everlasting beige head. Aroma is roasted malt and earthy hops peeking through with a whiff of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. . Flavor is roasty, alcoholic and earthy (but not in a bad way) with a nice balance of maltiness and bitterness. Similar to Scotch Ale but without the smokiness. Finishes roasty and somewhat dry. Mouthfeel is medium and there is a slight sugary feel of chocolate syrup. A very good beer if you are drawn to the style.

Revised March 2014. this beer has gotten better every year. Diamond Bear flat-out knows how to make kick-ass malt-forward and "balanced" beers and this is at the forefront. I don't know if this is a "true" Irish Red, but damn, it tastes so good!
