Poured into a pint, at the brewery, this beer is very dark and forms a thin, khaki colored crown.

The nose brings roasty malts, coffee.

The taste follows suit on that. Roasty malts, coffee notes. Some sweet vanilla.

Creamy, silky mouthfeel. Full bodied for the style. A little burn on the back.

Overall, not the best ever but a solid Baltic Porter.

This just came back into stock at the local grocery. Poured into a narrow and straight crystal glass.

Look: Great brown sugar/marshmallow head that sticks around for a while. Dark body that's completely opaque to the light—sort of like a burnt umber crayon.

Smell: Roasted nuts, fall leaves, a teensy bit of vinegar in the nose. Bready notes are notably missing. The smell is "spikier" than that.

Taste: Wow. The perfect balance between cloying and bitter. It isn't as ashy as a stout, but it's deeper than the porters I think of when I think about the style. Not syrupy at all. Flavor hits from the middle of the tongue and goes back from there. Pleasant.

Mouthfeel: Prickly, but not overly so. Spikey at the front of the tongue, it dissipates in a pleasant way by the time it gets to the back of the mouth.

Overall: Great beer. Will certainly buy throughout the season!

12 oz bottle from Sigler's in Tennessee.
Dark but clear reddish brown with a durable tan head.
OK aroma with a better flavor. Moderately strong for style.
Smooth, medium-full body.

I had a six of these over the winter months and really enjoyed the porter. It poured very dark brown with an ample half inch head. Aroma was kind of muted (maybe it was too cold), taste started out roasted with some vanilla and chocolate notes. Finished with sweet malt but not cloying. Nice! I will have this again next year.

Had on tap at Barley's in Knoxville TN and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Full-bodied and utterly flavorful for a regular porter, it reminded me of Founders Porter. Chocolate notes, some coffee, hops, malt... old-fashioned and delicious.
