Formerly Mosaic Session Ale

Before the Mosaic hop even had a name (back when it was just known as “HBC 369”), our brewers couldn’t wait to get their hands on some. Mosaic Session IPA is bursting with vibrant grapefruit aroma and flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. Our signature dry-hopping technique delivers an incredibly drinkable lower ABV beer without sacrificing hop appeal. From a small test batch to the bottle you now hold in your hands, this isn’t a one-and-done beer. Sit back, have a few, and enjoy your session.

On tap at Karl Strauss in 4S Ranch (San Diego), CA.

It’s bright, and I feel alright. And I mean it’s literally bright outside, but with that, so is this beer. Like Einstein with an gr wet idea, Mosaic shines. Now, it may not win a Nobel Peace prize or whatever, but it’s definitely something that you wild write down with a ballpoint so that you don’t forget.

Wash your hands before you eat, my children.

On can. I think is like Session IPA, very drinkable. Smell like grapefruit, mango, lemon. Taste grapefruit with little bitter final. Light body. I like it.

Wow. I don't usually like Session IPAs, and Karl Strauss does not print the word "Session" on the label, but at only 5.5% ABV this meets Session criteria. Light amber color with good lacing, wonderful citrus aroma from (only?) Mosaic hops, refreshing taste with mild bitterness, long aftertaste. A bit thin in the mouthfeel perhaps from low ABV. Of course extra credit for making a great IPA that is super refreshing without the buzz.

On tap at the brewery in Sorrento Valley/Mira Mesa. It’s a Mosaic Pale/Session IPA, so it’s pretty hard to screw up. A delicious hop and therefore a delicious beer.

February 29th, 2016 - We're sessioning Leap Year with Karl Strauss, with offers a nice, bubbly and blonde brew with a slight hop dankness (because would it be a San Diego beer without some of that weedy stank?) There's also a bit of wet cloth smell to it that edges dangerously close to milder, as well as some pineapple brightness. That pineapple reflects more strongly in the flavor, with the foamy and light palate and a short taste. The flavor, like the aroma, is hoppy but only mildly so, with most of the flavor experience concentrated up front, and fading quickly by the mid-taste.

The look and smell didn't let on how good this was going to be. Very bland looking and the smell is something like unripe mango and honey, but the taste is great. Mango, pineapple, lemon, wheat, and more all dancing around in my mouth. Great mouthfeel too.

Light copper and clearly filtered with moderate carbonation and a half finger of white head.

Smells of malt, and a touch of caramel and children's aspirin.

Taste of light tropical fruit, blueberry, and caramel.

Light body with a little foamy carbonation.

I got this in Roseville, CA and am drinking it in Redding today. Decent, light, and perhaps I got a bottle past its prime.

Great session IPA. Pours a slightly hazy gold color with a small foamy head. Average head retention and thick lacing. Aroma is very good. So much tropical fruit aroma that you would describe it as much floral in addition to citrus. Flavor is good too!!! Average IPA bitterness and a variety of tropical fruit flavors including passion fruit and mango. Mouthfeel is crisp, mildly bitter and rich enough for an IPA, without having to say "session". I had it on tap at the Sea Salt restaurant in Torrey Pines CA. Would look forward to drinking it again.

12oz can, date stamped 3378. Golden body with slight chill haze, frothy white head hangs around for a minute or two. Juicy Mosaic aroma of tropical fruit and citrus. Juicy hop flavors hitting bright notes of passion fruit, grapefruit, lemon-lime, and tangerine; malt base is mild but adds sweetness by means of light caramel & biscuit. Medium body, tart bitterness, fairly clean and balanced finish. Great flavors, easy drinking, and a good one when you want to sit and have a few.
