I had this on tap at their Costa Mesa location. It's listed on the menu as a Karl Strauss Special Release.
"A strong, full-bodied ruby-colored dopplebock that is bready and slightly nutty with a sweet and warming finish".
Yes...pours a clear ruby-amber color with very tiny carbonation making a constant stream up from the bottom of the pint glass. Aromas are toasted amber malt, bready or biscuit yeast, and a touch of cinnamon.
Flavor is rich in toasted malt and bread dough with a touch of cinnamon and strong alcohol in the finish.
The mouthfeel and body feels weak or a little thin to me, particularly with the heavy alcohol presence but still acceptable.
A very nice sipper for a fall afternoon.
