A little disappointing as I expect great things from this brewery. Looks a little thin and more watery than I expected - medium brown, not totally opaque, just a small cap of thin white head and minimal spotty lingering lacing. Smells quite nice, strong peanut butter notes along with the vanilla, caramel, malt and cocoa that's in the foreground. Taste follows the nose somewhat, but the peanut butter is just a little too salty, too oily, too acidic to be smooth or rich or complex. Tough to fully enjoy the balance of flavors. Smooth, slightly thin, mild mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Tried letting this porter warm up a little and that didn't seem to improve things. Too bad.

A: The beer is very dark brown in color (nearly black when viewed from afar). It poured with just a narrow off white collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Strong aromas of peanut butter are present in the nose along with hints of chocolate.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of peanut butter.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly thin on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The aroma in this beer is almost like opening a jar of peanut butter. I liked how it wasn't that heavy on the palate and was very easy to drink.

Too much carbonation for a porter. Head dissipates quickly kinda like soda pop. Peanut butter taste is good, not strong like Belching Beaver's. Wierd after taste.

Pours dark with quick fading head. Amazing note scents of peanut butter. Smooth and silky porter with peanut butter chocolate favor.

9oz pour, small pint glass.
Color is on the light side for a Porter and more brown than red. The head is a light tan and very creamy looking.
Literally a peanut butter cup is in my glass, the aroma is mimicked so closely.
Flavor is definitely where peanut butter beers breakdown. Very rich, oily flavors are hard to reconcile with carbonation. The peanut butter flavor is tinny, but well supported by milk chocolate and roast flavors.
Maybe the problem is more in the feel department. It’s highly carbonated with a slickish medium body.
Peanut butter beers are fun every once in awhile and amazingly approximate the real thing. This one is no different.

Poured reddish-brown into a stout glass. Significant khaki head that held up nicely. Smell is outstanding--rich peanut-buttery! Smell is better than the taste, but the taste is pretty great too. Dark chocolate and peanut butter--yum! My only real complaint is the mouthfeel. It is a bit thin and I was expecting something that smelled that decadent to be a bit thicker and richer feeling.

Type: 16-oz. draft
Glass: Clear shaker pint glass
From: Hooleys Irish Pub in Grossmont Center (La Mesa), Calif.
Price: $6.25
Purchased: Dec. 13, 2017
Consumed: Dec. 13, 2017
Reviewed as: English Porter

Had been wanting to try this, but kind of balked at the $9.99 price tag for a 22-oz. bomber. Ended up trying it on draft at Hooleys for what ended up being $6.25. Not a bad deal. I think Karl Strauss is a very underrated brewery and I had no doubt that this was going to be good
Poured a reddish brown semi-opaque color with two fingers of frothy khaki tan head. A few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Outstanding lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled creamy peanut butter, chocolate milk, toffee, caramel, chocolate peanut butter candy and nutty malts. So damn smooth. (Smell - 4.50)
Tasted not nearly as good as the nose, but solid. Creamy peanut butter, espresso, toffee, chocolate milk, nutty malts and chocolate peanut butter candy. (Taste - 4.00)
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long smooth finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This was about as good as I hoped. Would have again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

Poured from 22oz into Seidel Mug. No date.
L: Deep dark mahogany, finger width tan head has decent retention.
S: Smells strongly of chocolate and peanut butter.
T: Again a lot of peanut butter, almost just peanut flavor, with chocolatey undertones, nice roasty flavor, interesting flavor and not the best but tasty.
F: Medium body, crisp, roasty nutty finish.
O: Interesting beer, not the best thing I've ever had but its tasty.
