Poured into hefeweizen glass.

A- 23-30, a beautiful dark orange-brown. Quickly dissipating, one-finger beige head with a nice, thin retention & webby lacing.

S- Sweet, plump, honey-wheat bread aroma. I wanna toast it and put turkey & mustard on it!

T- Toasty, medium-bodied malt, & slick. A perfect touch of subtle sweetness followed by a drier, subtle hoppy finish.

M & O- Moderate carb bite. Very well balanced. I'm happy this was my first Dunkel!

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey pilsner glass. Uh oh, green bottle.

A real nice hued deep chestnut and mahogany brown body color. Light tan head a bit foamy but with a nice growing pinhead sized bubbles in the formation. Settles to a creamy tan puck. Not much rising carbonation. Pretty solid.

Wow this smells like a doppelbock. Big clove notes, and cinnamon brown hot spices. Nutmeg and clove are all over this thing. A clean hop aroma of matching spice as well. NO SKUNKING luckily, we have dodged the skunk monster.

Very clean palate. Light crisp and with a nice caramel malt backbone, hints at light anise and licorice quality, with minimal toffee sweetness. Clean hop popping finish, and grain light airy quality. Good mix of light crispness and malt density as well for easy drinking.

A real solid dunkel lager, luckily feel even better dodging the green bottle of death (it appeared brown should have looked at the bottle cap neck closely I would have known better.

Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue X:

Ruddy orange-brown color; the thin layer of sediment is left behind in the bottle to make sure it pours out perfectly clear. Decent head retention with ample stickage on the glass. Smells of sweet brown bread, light caramel and an ever-so-faint fig note. Slick medium body with a sufficient level of crispness to keep the beer lively. Clean and pleasant toasted bread character from start to finish really has a firm grip on the taste buds. Hops come in a little prickly as the bitterness slowly moves over the palate; quick herbal flavor leads to more of a mellow spicy note. Dry finish with a flash of toasted biscuit flavors and slight lemony hop.

For a beer style that has less wiggle room than others, this one is not only a benchmark beer for the style, but a stellar example as well. So clean and flavorful, each sip makes you want another.

In the glass and settled, this beer is a thick (not viscous) brown with plum highlights and lots of bubbles sticking to the sides of the glass. The head is a tan one, starting almost a finger high and receding quickly to a thick layer with heavy edges that makes for solid lacing.
The wheat forms a dry base under dark fruits, fig and prune specifically, and a hint of banana notes with a mineral tone to it under plenty of caramel.
Something like clove is stronger in the flavor, breads heavy in the malts with caramel secondary. The mineral note still runs strong, but in a complementary way, while toast and dark fruits make up a good part of the bulk of the flavor. Herbal and floral hops notes hit the middle and lead right into the finish, where a bit of banana peel as well as a zesty lemon flavor come in.
It's pretty light in the body but leading medium, still deep and well textured. The crispness isn't too biting but remains firm the whole way through, while its cleanness is notable. It's smooth, too, and the light dryness balances the feel.

(Bottle, trade with joss in Germany). Organic! Reddish brown colour, very good head. Roasted malts, toast, caramel, oak and pine wood in the aroma, some smokiness. Flavour is all malts + a slight smokiness, nice bitterness, well balanced. This is a very good dunkel!

A: The beer poured murky brown in color with a thin white head that quickly faded away leaving just a few bubbles floating on the surface. There is a light amount of visible carbonation.
S: There are aromas of toasted dark malts (similar to brown bread) with notes of caramel in the nose.
T: The taste is very malty with a mild amount of sweetness and has flavors of brown bread, caramel and raisins. No traces of bitterness are noticeable.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and is very smooth and a bit thin. Not much carbonation is present.
D: There's nothing to hold you back from downing this beer very quickly.

Pours a clear dark-brown color, with a small top off white head that disolves rapidly. Aroma is off slight roasted malts, caramel, nuts and some dried dark fruits. Flavour is off strong roasted malts, some hints off coffee and caramel with some sweetness upfront. Has a slight bitter finish with malts strong in the back. Good length in the aftetaste but a little watery in the flavour. Medium carbonated with a medium body. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. All in all is a good and enjoyable dunkel lager

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. No born on date. The bottle they distribute in is has to be one of the oddest (though very cool) looking, with a long skinny neck and fat, round body.

A - Pours a deep amber color and it looks magnificent when you hold it up to a light, as the orange and red hues intensify. The initial head is light and bubbly but dissipates quickly leaving a thin lace on top of the beer.

S - Bready scents, darker maltiness. Bittersweet chocolate.

T - Dark chocolate, pumpernickel bread. Finishes with a nice hop bitterness.

M - Very crisp and smooth though the carbonation is slightly over the top. Light to medium body.

D - Probably one of the better dunkels I've had. Has the drinkability of your typical pilsner with tasty darker maltiness, displaying near perfect balance. Pretty good overall.
