Nothing spectaclular here but a solid choice. Hoppy as advertised yet smooth with no excessive bitter aftertaste. Perfect for the weekend IPA warrior.

8-Bit Pale Ale | Tallgrass Brewing Co. Tap House. Poured from the can into a pint glass, this sports a three finger thick head, solid lacing, and a deep golden body.

Smells like nice and zesty citrus with brighter malts and grains.

I'm tasting that citrus zest complimenting the hops rather pleasantly. Mild all-around without sacrificing flavor. Nice and lively.

Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

I'm rating 8-Bit Pale Ale | Tallgrass Brewing Co. Tap House with an overall 4.

Just like the video game pictured on the can, this one is a classic.

Beautiful pour with thick and creamy head, just off-white, that sticks around for a while before settling into thin foamy cap and leaving tons of clingy lacing on the glass.

Crystal clear, golden straw colored beer. Slightest amber tint.

The aroma is not huge but offers grain, a hint of citrusy hop and some grassy malt.

Flavor is grainy malt, some residual malt sweetness and a moderate level of bitterness. Hop flavors come through as a bit of bitter citrus and some earthy resins.

Just lighter than medium body and persistent moderate carbonation.

Sometimes you just feel like this kinda brew. Nothing earth shattering but full flavored, balanced and nothing offensive. Tastes like beer tasted 15 years ago.

Orange color with a finger of fluffy white head. Faint pine and floral hop smell. Medium feel. Taste has sweet malt, citrus, and floral hops that all kind of come at you at once. Pretty good, one of these beers that blurs the line between a hoppy APA and a lighter IPA.

Pours rather clear until the final ounce which gives it a slightly foggy look. Head is two fingers in height and white in color with fair retention. Aroma is a meshing of pine, resin, floral, and herbal hops with biscuit malts. There is a bit of a sour punch within the mix. Flavor profile is resin, floral, and herbal hops with a light dose of citrus hops. Bittering hops dominate. Biscuit, bread, and pale malts give it a little bit more of a foundation, but the bite from the hops pokes through. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a velvety feel that borders on crisp. Overall, while hops aren't hugely overwhelming, they are certainly driving the storyline here. It's a fair beer, making a good session beer.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz can.

8-Bit Pale Ale brewed by Tallgrass Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.20% This American Pale Ale pours out a deep golden amber color with a nice thick white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with hop bitterness, earthy grains and malts. There is a lot going on in 8-Bit Pale Ale. This brew has the look and smell of most pale ales on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. 8-Bit Pale Ale is a really nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with hop bitterness at first, then it milds out with smooth earthy grains and malts. The hop bitterness is strong but the earthy grains and malts really smooth this brew out. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. The body of 8-Bit Pale Ale is a solid medium. I like how smooth this brew goes down. This brew would go nice on any occasion. The mouth feel is Bold, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm going to give this American Pale Ale a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Tallgrass Brewing Company, did a super nice balance with this one.

This is not a different APA. Mostly driven by its blend of hops, 8-Bit Pale has a bit more complexity that might be more typical of an IPA or IIPA. Sensing that, I had it with a mild Indian dal and it accompanied well.

Slightly above average for clarity and foam, 8-Bit also has a nice golden tone. Besides the malt, my nose picks up floral, fruity and, then, grassy hops. These flavors come at me mostly all at once; but then, I've got a low threshold for when hops bother me... hence these interfere with mouthfeel which would be, otherwise, pleasantly in the medium range.

OA: 8-Bit was a bit average by itself, but became a good experience by eating it with a mildly spiced dal.

12 oz can, drink by 10/21/17. Pours hazy golden orange with a big fluffy white head that retains well and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is sweet vegetal malts with some fruit.

The flavor is sweet crystal malt with a little biscuit and lots of citric fruit and a medium bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent fruity pale.

These come in pint cans? I thought mine was 12 oz. . . maybe there is both? Anyways, pours standard yellow color for a pale ale with a little bit of copper color thrown in for bad measure. The can design, is pretty damn cool, and yes, that is going to factor into the "look" score for me.

Seemed to lack much if any dry hopping. Just a little bit of grassiness in there and not much else for the nose. Standard pale and biscuit malt mouth feel, bitterness in the 45ibu range I would guess. Still kickin it grassy and brassy. Does nothing wrong nor exceptional, seems clearly in the realm of 'average'. If you're looking for something approaching balanced these days, this might fit the bill for you.

12 oz. Can
Drink By: 10/21/17

My first from this brewery.

Poured into a Tired Hands glass a pretty nice clean/clear dark golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy two-finger off-white head, which also leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, slight malt note, citrusy complex (lemon, oranges, tangerines), slight pine note. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, slightly malty, with some pretty nice citrusy complex (lemon, oranges, tangerines), some pineyness. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this one surprised me, pretty tasty APA.

Short Review. Not bad, but it seemed to be pretty average for a Pale Ale. The hop profile was a little more muted than I expected, but it did have some nice balance to it and the drinkability wasn't bad. I don't think I would get this one again since it's pretty easy to find a better tasting Pale Ale.

This may be the most distinguished brew I've come across from Tallgrass.

It pours a nice golden color, perfectly clear with fine bubbles. The aroma is fresh and hoppy. The taste is bitter and hoppy. The malts poke through a mound of hops. Nice balance,

Overall, this is a very satisfying pale that I would seek out. Highly recommended.

It pours a hazy orange hue with a massive head that lingers and leaves a good lacing on the glass. The smell is a piney and citrus to it and the taste is much the same. It has a goog medium body with just enough bitterness to it. Overall a good drink.

Pours a slightly hazy honey yellow color with a massive head that recedes slowly to leave lacing on the glass. The aroma is citrus, pine and cereal. The flavor follows the aroma and has just the right amount of bitterness on the finish. The feel is crisp and overall a very enjoyable low abv beer.

L: Cloudy burnt orange color. White head with some lacing.

S: Fruity, especially orange or tangerine.

T: Bitter orange similar to the nose. Lingering bitter after taste.

O: Noty favorite pale ale, but still enjoyable.

i like things like this. old school.

very pale, yellow beer. thick head dissipates to soapy lacing. crisp and a touch spicy with good hops bitterness that lingers. decent carbonation and a clean finish.

kind of like your wife, this is familiar and you know you'll like it. there may be flashier things out there, but this is one you can keep around and people will know you've got pretty good taste.

Poured out this cool looking can leaving me with an orange body, reminiscient, sticky, and spotty light head and a lot of hard to describes.

8-Bit is a cool throwback with that sour, piney, rind, with a little bit of floral characteristics as well as a minor malt backbone (pale?).

I'll be damned if I would try to detract from Tallgrass's recipe.. They got their thing going on and I'm not gonna be a hater. Besides I have 2 more beers of theirs to review! Bahaha. I love the 8-Bit pale ale concept and the adjacent almost sour flavors. Reminds me of a couple beers I've reviewed lately with the other characteristics stopping that hop bitterness from taking a forefront.

I still think the art on this can is the coolest and I really hope my rating doesn't come out below 4.3. This is a great beer for those who understabd it and even cooler art for the beer glass/can collection. So what if it doesn't have 9% alcohol? I bet the reviews would be higher if you guys were drunker already. Thanks Tallgrass!

Served on tap in nonic pint. Golden and glowing with a few fingers of fluffy white head. Very attractive. Aroma is floral and grassy with a bit of citrus. Taste was much harsher than expected, certainly for the ABV and being billed as a pale ale. Pine and grapefruit rind dominate, with a bitter, dry finish. Maybe a case of expecting one thing and getting another, but not what I was looking for.

1 pint can poured into a snifter. Hazy golden. Nice tall creamy head which is diminishing very slow with an excellent lacing. High aroma of hops. Upfront it is grassy-earthy, later also some tropical fruits.
Medium-high bitter hoppy flavor. Bit of malty sweetness. Medium body, creamy. Average carbonation. Long lasting, strong and dry finish.

Very crisp beer. But I think hops aroma could be little bit softer for this style.

Pours a hazy glowing orange, dense white head, some streams of fine carbonation. Nose offers orange spritz and rind for a refreshing-bitter combo, plus some light wheat/hay in the background. Flavor is juicy with pungent tropical fruit, a grassy quality, a bit of piney bite on the finish, and more light malt. Moderate bitterness, dry. Body is medium weight with a good flow and lively carbonation to it.
This is a great example of where the craft movement is. Really tasty beer that fails to distinguish itself from all the other tasty beers. I'm glad Tallgrass didn't go gimmicky here, but at the same time I can find this quality (read: good+) just about anywhere nowadays.

I've had tallgrass before but never reviewed any so I thought I would review this one.

Look: dark straw yellow to gold color with tight uniform head. Light haze.

Aroma: Very catty. Some piney aroma as well. A little lemony citrus in the background.

Taste: Nice spruciness, Aroma translates to the palate. It's refreshing but there's not a ton of the tropical and citrus flavors that I associate with great IPAs.

Mouthfeel: relatively thin mouthfeel. Good carbonation.

Overall(style): not a bad beer but lags behind what's coming out of the northeast and west coast. 86.25 points

A grainy backbone that carries through the beer, citrus at the front and bitter hops at the end.

Poured from the can into a glass.

Bright, murky orange-yellow color.

Huge bright white head; nice lacing.

Hopped up pilsener smell; some citrus, some bread.

Thin mouthfeel.

Fairly boring flavor; some bread flavor, some macro-lager aftertaste, & very little citrus from the hops. I won't be having another.
