Also known as Schell's 2014 Weiss

First brewed in 1984, Schell’s Hefeweizen is made with a blend of wheat malt and barley malts. We use an authentic wheat beer yeast culture, which gives the beer a fruity ale character dominated by a citrus-like tartness. Refreshingly light character with a higher than normal carbonation level. Straw-colored and cloudy from the unfiltered yeast left in suspension. Notes of banana and clove with a slight bready malt flavor.

A enjoyable hefe....bright, hazy yellow color....nose begins with the banana's and then about midway in a real nice clove aroma eminates...The nose is really impressive...Taste is more on the banana's but also a spicy clove finish....body is lighter and not much carbonation...I didn't expect much from this for some reason and it is better than I anticipated....I remember drinking this when it was Weizen a few years back and I didn't think much of it...either my tastes have changed or this beer has....a solid example of a German Hefe....very tasty and thirst quenching....needless to say this won't be the last six-pack of this I will buy this summer....nice summer beer...

Maybe the cans I got had something wrong with them, maybe some chlorine water from line cleaning, or something, but... it tasted like rancid, watery barbecue sauce. I'm normally a fan of hefeweizen type beer, as well as the beer Schell's puts out in general, but I could barely choke this one down.

12 oz can, "091021" printed on the bottom in yellow ink.

Pale gold and much clearer than expected. Big frothy white head that dies down fairly quickly. Aroma is spot on for a weissbier, with banana and clove reigning supreme. Similar fruit and spice profile in the flavor as well. Very easy and refreshing to drink, but a little on the thin side. Light bodied. Flavors are on point here, just need to amp up the body a bit and you'd have a killer weissbier. Thanks to Chaz for sending!

Schell's Hefeweizen pours a straw color, with not much head that sticks around. Sweet sticky aroma, some clove. Flavor is lighter, but some clove and banana notes. Good body and feel. Overall, has some nice traditional hefeweizen flavors, but a bit lighter.

Picked up as a single from my local liquor store. Poured into glass. Foamy head, but quickly dissipated. Mild, slightly bitter smell. Taste is popping with clove and wheaty spices. Not overwhelmingly wheaty, with a light finish. Leave a nice and warm aftertaste in your mouth. Will be picking up again as a nice summer-day beer.

Poured from a can into a tall tap glass.

Pours a pale straw gold with a nice rocky three-finger head. Not the greatest retention but good bubbles and lacing.

The brew delivers classic aromas, with banana, bubblegum, clove, citrus, and white pepper all present, with perhaps less banana and more spice and citrus than normal.

The flavor follows the nose. Banana sweetness on the tongue, grain and citrus sourness at midstream, and a big clove and pepper finish, perhaps as strong as any I've tried. Just a bit out of balance that way.

The brew is very drinkable, with a nice tart finish and good carbonation.

Overall, this is an interesting take on a classic style, but just a bit too heavy handed on the spice, even for the style.

A good example of a Hefe from a local brewery. Pours a light gold, thin head and some silent bubbles that accent the moment.

Taste is initially of banana/clove, and the hops are fairly subdued. A good choice for summer!

Additional bottle notes: "In 1984, this was the first wheat beer made in the U.S. after Prohibition, and in 2001 we re-introduced this favorite as an unfiltered Hefeweizen. A slight citric tang and faint clove aroma make this the perfect beer for working on your lederhosen tan lines."

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Label has ABV as 5.5%. Stamped on bottle neck is '062418 047150'.
Cloudy, straw colored body. 1-1/2 finger white head settles to puffy cap. Rings of lacing.
Aroma is redolent with banana, cloves, and bready yeast.
Taste has a wheat/citrus tang, along with the banana and clove esters. Good bready malt backbone.
Crisp, medium mouth feel, with higher carbonation level.
A perfect summer beer, expressing the yeast esters and the crisp citrus tang. Clean and refreshing.
Not sure why the higher ABV% (5.5).

This beer pours a slightly cloudy yellow with a solid head. The aroma features big banana, lots of clove, with papaya, and sawdust. The flavor is bold with both fruit and spice, with banana, clove, papaya, nutmeg, and white grape. The mouthfeel is quite light with bold, fizzy carbonation. Overall a classic and tasty hefeweizen.

This beer pours a creamy looking golden color. The head was white and frothy.
The nose has a delicious hefe aroma- banana, cloves. Nice balance.
The taste, again, banana, clove. Nice and richly flavored.
Decent mouth feel. Not watery in the least.
This is a top notch hefe, and I highly recommend it

It's a well done here, very banana forward with a very nice clove and peppery spiciness. Super refreshing beer, maybe a little over carbonated but overall it's another very solid beer from schells.
