From notes: Pours a nice brown color with off-white head. Spice, rye, cocoa, and some caramel and roasted malts on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more spice.

brown, very clear with lots of carbonation, really quite nice and a classic look for a bock. Thin off white head formed on the top, but quickly faded to just a thin film that stayed throughout the session, but offered no side glass contribution.

The aroma was your classic malty bock. Nice sweet caramel and nutty aromas mixed in with a good earthy tone. The flavor followed through very closely with a nice bitter malty flavor and a good amount of sweetness

Thanks to sonicdescent for this one. Poured into a mug. Appearance is reddish brown with a 2-finger light beige head. Minimal lacing.

Smell is strong of caramel & chocolate, but there are nice hints of vanilla, wheat, sour herbal hops & yeast. The taste is dominated by the chocolate and caramel. There are some additional flavors of sour rye, whiskey, vanilla, and bread. Mouthfeel is smooth, finish is dry.

This is a very drinkable brew; very filling.

Pours a nice brownish copper color with ver nice head and some decent lacing. Nice malty scent with a hint of spices: cinnamon and nutmeg, perhaps, with a little hop undertone. Nice thick malty taste, with a nice hint of spice and a decent malt/hop aftertaste. Goes down quite nice!

Pours chestnut with a finger of tan head. Average lacing & head retention

S: Brown bread & toffee & a touch of boozeyness, once warm

T: Brown bread & caramel with dryness up front, plus a touch of herbal hops. More brown bread & caramel as this warms, along with slight grainyness and toasty malt. Finishes dry, toasty & with nice caramel notes

MF: Medium bodied with fairly soft carbonation, slight stickyness as well

Drinks really easy, not a perfect bock, but one I'd happily put in rotation if given the chance

Pours a cloudy, amber/brown color with lighter amber along the edges and bottom of the glass. 5/4 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of sweet malt, yeast, slight roasted malt, and slight hop. Fits the style of a Bock. Mouth feel is smooth and slightly thick with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, hops, slight spice, and yeast in the finish. Overall, a better than average bock, but nothing special. Good blend of flavors, nice mouth feel, and good appearance.

A- Pours a translucent deep brownish-red with a pillow of light brown head with huge bubbles. Thin lacing sticking all over my glass.

S- Malts and caramely goodness. Smells sweet.

T- Tastes full, caramel, cocoa, toasted malts, raisins. Very balanced.

M- Nice carbonation, just the right amount for my taste. Feels full on my palate.

D- Very drinkable. Very balanced and refreshing beer.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

Found this review from earlier this year under my desk while cleaning and I haven't posted it yet...

Poured with a .5 finger head that dissipated quickly. Deep rich amber color with mild to medium carbonation. Light splotchy lacing.

Smells of malts and deep dark fruits.

Tastes of malts, chocolate, dark fruits and chocolate.

Smooth crisp mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Goes down pretty easy. I have drank multiple of these in a night on several occasions.

Clear maroon ruby mix with a small khaki colored capping. Nice lacing in thin sheeting with some broken holes and strings in a few areas.

Mildly set aroma with some cocoa, toasted grains, and a tender sweet bready undertone. Notes of red malt, caramel, grass, and partial roasted malt too. A fairly complex nose, just not all that potent; takes some major wiffing to get it in. However, what's there is quite nice.

Taste is quite nice with a pleasing easy tone of slightly roasty maltyness, caramel, mixing with a fluffed cocoa-esk tweak on top of some slight burnt grassyness. Smidgeons of burntness play off the finish as it stays mildly set in a firm but light amount of toasty bready sweetness.

Feel is a firm, nearly creamy, and smooth medium body with a finely drifted tone of sweetened roast, caramel, and cocoa dryness floating about adding a great complexity that is much like a great brown ale. Which this comes across more like then a Bock, but that may be splitting a few hairs I'm sure.

Very drinkable stuff and quite enjoyable. Glad to have been convinced to grab some after many other various years of the Snowstorm being fairly disappointing. This 2008 more then makes up for it.

Smell - Malty with some caramel.

Taste - Malt with some rye and chocolate. Quite interesting.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Right amount of carbonation.

Drinkability - Quite drinkable. I could easily have a few of these.

Pours an amber brown into glass with a small head. Aroma is malt with bread and grain (lager-like). Flavor isn't too bad, there is some sweetness in there but mostly bread and grain with some caramel. I thought this brew could be drain pour from the aroma but it's actually drinkable. Lots of malt flavor in this brew and goes down smooth and refreshing.

Pours a perfectly clear amber with a decent enough light tan head. Nose is leafy and with a minor sweet edge to it. Flavor is leafy, earthy, and tangy sweet. A bit too tangy IMO, but I still like it enough. Seems to mellow out a slight bit as it warms. Smooth liquid with an almost sticky feel to it. Carbonation is pretty low. Hey, I can dig it.

Pours a 1 finger head with good retention and an amber color.

Smell is of some mild aromatic malt.

Taste is of caramel malts with a hint of hop bitterness. It's sort of uninteresting.

Crisp mouthfeel with decent fullness.

This is a pretty decent beer, nothing special, but it's sessionable for sure.

Thanks to Beubie for the sample.

Pours a nice dark copper with a bit of white head. Smells of some thick fruit.. not sure if I can sense the rye or not. The mouthfeel is average-ish.. medium bodied with a faint tartness and not too carbonated. The taste is pretty good--a mix of syrupy fruits and a bit of the rye I'm thinking. Overall I liked this one and will be enjoyed it much.

A-Pours a deep hazy amber color with an off white medium creamy to slightly bubbly head that slowly fades to a good film on the beer, but very good retention with really good lacing all the way down my glass.

S-The aroma is of faint dark fruits. That's about is. Slight notes of rye in the nose.

T-Strong sweet caramel with some strong astringency and tangy alcohol notes, big minus.

M-Medium to almost light bodied. Slightly cloying.

D-Ok drinkability. I could probably have a few of these in a night. But it wasn't all that.

Poured into a pint glass, enjoyed while reading a chapter out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

A-Copper-brown beer, clear and dark. A large tan head lightly tops it off. Head reduced down slowly to a consistent layer of bubbles and retained nicely.

S-Fruity esters, rye spice, hints of black pepper, over a caramel and bready malt.

T-Caramel, chocolate and nutty bread malts create the foundation of this beer's flavor, with a slight spice poking through. Hop bitterness provides a balance to this luscious, malty brew. Finishes rather dry with a faint chocolate taste lingering with a spicy breadiness.

M-Medium bodied, moderate level of carbonation. This brew has a comforting feel to it, further accentuated by its rich flavors.

D-I've had this beer many times over this winter season and have thoroughly enjoyed it time and again. Another winner for the Snowstorm beers from Schell's. A very full flavor profile with many tastes to play with, making it an enjoyable beer.

I've heard alot about this beer, so I was very excited to see this as a part of the sampler pack! Not too easy to get this locally.

A: Dark/hazy brown, lingering head, lingering lace.

S: Bready/malty as hell. Chocolate malts.

T: Chocolate malt, bread, a slight bit of prune/fig/dark fruits. Slight metallic taste at the back. Yeah, this is nice.

M: Metallic aftertaste ( well, slight metallic), keeps this from being higher. The semi-sweet chocolate hangs around a bit.

D: Well, if I had a 6er of these guys, I would/could EASILY kill it. While snowstorm might be a catchy name, it detracts from the "pure" bock nature of this beer. Dammit, I like this beer!!

A= Dark brown or amber depending on the lighting. excellent head that sticks around for a while. Lacing is decent on the sides of my glass
S= Very bready smelling. One of the most bread like beers I've ever smelled.
T= chocolate, bread and a small hint of hops to finish. The bread flavor again sort of tastes me away with this beer.
M= smooth and crisp at the same time. Very interesting
D= very high. This is a great beer. The best from schell I've had so far.

Bottle from trade. Pours dark amber, smells bread-like, with a bit of pepper and rye. Nice flavor, the rye comes out a plays well with the malt and a bit of balancing hops. For a bock, it's quite drinkable, even though it's a bit on the thick tasting side. Cool beer, I'd drink it again.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a tumbler glass. Printed freshness date of "060409".

Appearance: Clear dark brown with a big off-white head. Head retention is fairly good, but the lacing leaves a bit to be desired.

Smell: Sweet malts with a vaguely chocolate aroma.

Taste: Rye and caramel barley malt with a bitter finish.

This beer is kinda ho-hum. I'd rather have Michelob's winter seasonal to be completely honest.
