Grain Belt Nordeast has a very thick, frothy, spongy, off-white head, a mostly clear, bubbly, gold-amber appearance, with a higher-than-average amount of suspended powdery sediment throughout, and a fairly heavy lacing left behind. Aroma is of sourish, citrus, grain and malt, and the flavor is of those elements, alongside bread crust, white bread, some sweetness, and very low level hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Grain Belt Nordeast finishes crisp and easy drinking.

After a long winter and a crappy spring Memorial Day 2011 brings hot and humid weather to bring on the summer. Garden work lead to the need for a lawn mower beer and this one fits the bill.
Damn clear glass bottles - slight skunky aroma with a yeast background and slightly sweet malt. No hops to speak of - maybe just a faint light grass aroma.
Very attractive in my pilsner glass. Dense off-white head settles slowly and covers a brilliantly clear amber body (brown/orange copper).
First time I drank this I didn't catch much adjunct, but it was a social situation and that contributed. More noticeable today, but not too heavy. It blends with the soft malt - that holds a tasty caramel flavor that is the touch of sweetness up front and moves through the drink later. Slight yeast quality. Very mild hop flavor and finishes with a kiss of bitterness, a little yeast and the tickling to sharper carbonation. Very soft feels from the bubbles - which are appropriately ample and filling (burp). There is a little body to this so it doesn't feel like water going down.
This is a good lawn mower beer. Hot day, in the sun, lighter drinker with some flavor. Drink cold though that adjunct begins to show with time.

12 oz. bottle.

Clear, clean, medium copper body. Pinkie finger of dirty off-white head. Some lacing. Sweetish honey malts mix with caramel and very mild grassy hops. Lightly toasted malts up front. Sweetish graham crackers and honeyed biscuit malts unfold. Doughy and clean, with a hint of adjunct-ness. Mostly clean finish with some residual sweetness. Moderate body with a crisp feel. Tasty and very easy drinking. I don't know if this beats the original though!

S-hops ,malt, and grain

T- taste was that of an adjunct..it had malts and caramel followed by some hops

M- was medium carbonated wit a malty taste that stayed in the back of my mouth

D-its drinkable with a lower ABV..its great to knock back some of these while bowling in the winter..its really just average

Re-review 9/22/14.

Appearance (4) : Fluffy, billowy three finger head atop a honey-caramel body. Opacity is about 70%.

Smell (4) - Fresh barley, toasted grains and/or toasted bread, wheat, a little citrus spice. Overall a very toasty, baked bread smell.

Taste (4.25) - An easy drinker. No off notes, no bad flavors. Just a good, creamy amber beer. Heavy on the toasted grains, some wheat, and a hint of orange and tomato. This remains the king of ambers for me.

Mouthfeel (3.75) - Smooth, dry, and lightly carbonated. Ends brisk and crisp.

Overall : If you haven't tried Nordeast, go and buy some. This is by far one of the smoothest ambers out there, and is my favorite by a nose or two. You can drink them fast and they have great flavor, time after time. It is by far in my top five for clean and easy drinking beers with exceptional flavor. It's not easy folks, but Nordeast nails it.

The quintessential amber beer.

I had this on tap at the Sportsman Lodge near Baudette.

Served in a standard pint, the beer is nice amber with red highlights. There is an off-white head and lacing.

Beer has a smell of lightly toasted malts. Not a ton of aroma, but what there is, is nice.

Lightly roasted malts lead the taste. There is a hint of red apple and just a whisper of hops. Bready with crackers. No off or odd tastes. Everything hangs well together.

Decent mouth to style. It’s an easy beer to pair with food. I had three with the walleyes we caught that day.

One of those beers where the total is greater than the sum of the parts (hence the higher overall rating)
