On-tap at the Black Woods Restaurant in Two Harbors, MN, where it's the house ale. Per the restaurant folks, this is brewed for them by August Schell, but is available only at Black Woods restaurants. Tasted 31 August 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours a clear rusty brown, a nice rich color. One finger of cream-tan head, good retention and plenty of lacing. Lots of visible carbonation as well.

Smell is faint, and I struggle to pull much out of it. Some distant woody malts, a touch of herbal hops. Plants... yeah. Not bad, but hard to find.

Taste is more toasty-woody. A bit of biscuity toast, a light touch of sugary sweetness, and some juicy wood.

Mouthfeel is fine. Medium-light body, watery, but with enough carbonation. Finishes drifting away, like a little boat on the big lake.

This is one of those beers where I can say, yes, it's beer, but I can't say much beyond that about it. Tastes fine, smell's a little dull. Drinkable enough. Not much more to say than that.
