The First release in Old Nation's "New Orthodox" IPA series, M-43 is designed to accentuate the deep and complex character from the combination of Calypso, Simcoe, Citra and Amarillo hops. Citrus and Tropical notes of Pineapple, Mango and Grapefruit come through in the huge, yet surprisingly delicate aroma. The flavor backs these aromas with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. Hop bitterness is not particularly intense, which leads to a very drinkable, New England IPA even non-IPA fans love. The Haze is not from yeast, but rather from an interplay of lipids from the malted oat and oils and acids which naturally occur in the hand selected Dry hops. This beer is a perfect interplay between top grade malt and hops, MI water and brewing technique which cannot be faked.

Hops aren't cheap, but M-43 is worth every penny!

Pours an extremely hazy yellow with a medium sized white head. Has a hoppy and pine smell. Gives off a great balance of hops and malt. Goes down nice and smooth.

L = A beautiful, pineapple yellow hazy body, topped with a one inch head that fades, but still produces lacing. Carbonation
is adequate.
S= The smell is a broad expanse. Strawberry, grapefruit, lemon, mango, pineapple, and some truly compelling hops waft together.
T= Reflective of the nose, but amplified. A sour back end noted, not surprising given the hoppiness. Anyway...delicious!
F= Perfectly balanced, riding that fine line between watery and sticky, and they absolutely nailed it. Refreshing!
O= This is a superior IPA. 6.8% ABV, 16 oz. can, great taste, refreshing, a bit of sweetness balancing the lively hops... It's hard to imagine a better IPA, as someone who is NOT a hophead. Extremely well done, Old Nation Brewing!

The orange glow of interior mango has a translucent haze within a Strangebird IIPA glass. The head is fluffy, white, and holds two inches for a short while. Patches of sticky lace form on the glass as the head works its way to a thick blanket.

Citrus is strong, with pine right on its heels. After the initial impression, tangerine and mango dominate. Pine straw and mild onions come out in the middle, with citrus returning in the form of orange rind and pith, making for a nice progression.

Bitterness is checked, although above the sweetness. Lots of orange concentrate gives way to pine at a distance. Astringency is light, with tartness adding layers. The finish starts bold, then fades to a lingering bitterness. Overall, the flavor is super juicy.

The body is medium to full. The texture oscillates between satin and fur. Alcohol is as expected, and the carbonation is appropriate.

This is a really tasty NEIPA. I discovered it entirely by chance while on vacation. In a world awash in NEIPAs this one stands out. It would be excellent for any occasion, including decompressing after a long day at the office.

L - Golden blonde of a beautiful particular tone. No head though!
S - Smells like an IPA. Fruity with that tartness from the pineapple. Light and drinkable.
T - Smooooth. Maybe I've just been drinking nothing but breakfast stout lately but this has no bitter aftertaste to me. Extremely drinkable.
M - Medium, refreshing

Poured into a grip shaped glass with a wider goblet like mouth: color is straw gold, dense haze, frothy off white head that presents one finger thick then dissipates to ring and froth, lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is simcoe - catty and onion, lighter malt and tropical notes with light pine.

Taste is grapefruit pith and tropical fruit (pineapple) with lighter mixed citrus, less prominent catty/onion notes from simcoe, light pine/earth, light malt and oat, but full in the flavor but still bitter.

Mouthfeel is light carbonation, moderate sweetness and fullness, moderate bitterness - balanced with each component taking a turn, lingers with some bitter and fuller feel from the oat.

Overall a well constructed NEIPA - hoppy, citric, fruity, full, with some pithy bitterness that lingers.

L - Hazy yellow with a white head that dissipates somewhat quickly, leaving behind some lacing
S - Fresh, piney, bitter, floral hops with grassy and tropical fruit notes
T - Follows the nose - fresh, piney bitter, resinous hops, along with tropical fruit notes - mango and pineapple stick out along with hints of grapefruit
F - medium, leaning on full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth, refreshing
O - A truly fantastic NEIPA - spot on for the style

Best NEIPA in Michigan. Consistency or shelf-life is an issue. I buy 4-Packs from Meijer's, and most cans are juice bombs, but every now and then, I'll get a pack with an acidic-tasting front note.
