Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Taking America Back. Dark & delicious, America’s great milk stout will change your perception about what a stout can be. Pouring hard out of the bottle, Milk Stout Nitro cascades beautifully, building a tight, thick head like hard whipped cream. The aroma is of brown sugar and vanilla cream, with hints of roasted coffee. The pillowy head coats your upper lip and its creaminess entices your palate. Initial roasty, mocha flavors rise up, with slight hop & roast bitterness in the finish. The rest is pure bliss of milk chocolate fullness.

Feeling the power of the Dark Side tonight. Left Hand Brewing Nitro Milk Stout. Its dark and you can't see through it. Two of my favorite qualities. On the pour there is a definite smell of molasses, but the initial flavor was rather disappointing. Overwhelmingly coffee, but not much else. Mouthfeel was thinner than I expected for something purporting to be a milk stout. Important safety tip ... Drinking this straight out of the fridge is a disppointment. Let it sit a while. The flavors don't really show themselves until it starts to come up in temperature! Once it does you get coffee, cocoa, molasses, burnt sugars. Far better than it started.

Pours black with a tan head. Retention is great and leaves a nice of lacing.
Smells like toasted malts, coffee, a hint of chocolate and a bit of cream. Very aromatic.
Very creamy taste. Milk chocolate, coffee, and hints of vanilla.
The mouthfeel is incredible. Liquid silk.

This beer was definitely thick and creamy. I loved it! Would definitely drink this again. Poured with a thin head that quickly dissipated, but went down smooth and easy with chocolate and coffee notes.

Appearance: Black with ruby highlights. Nice head of khaki foam. Lovely lace.

Aroma: Cocoa, burnt chocolate, lactose. Yum!

Taste: Smooth cocoa, milk chocolate and a hit of burnt malts but mostly a sweet and lightly bitter brew, so very smooth. Superb!

L: Really neat! The body, like many nitro stouts, is an opaque black, but in my pint glass, the beer left a great amount of frost and carbonation on the glass. There is also a light tan head that leaves rings along the glass as I drink.

S: A wonderful smooth and roasted aroma that is strong and robust. Sweet, dark and bitter on the nose.

T: Great roasted nut and coffee notes balanced by a sugar sweetness. It's a smooth taste and exceptionally balanced and consistent.

F: It's full-bodied and rich, but maybe a tad too thin and carbonated for me, personally, but it is quite appropriate for the style.

O: Nitro and imperial stouts usually hit the right notes for me when it comes to darker beers, and this is an exceptional nitro. Rich, strong and comforting.

Opened from the bottle, a resulting loud pop ensuing. Poured into a tall clear glass. Virtually matte black and deeply without hue. Fluffy tan foam head, moderate carbonation, and moderate lacing.

Upfront is the sweet smell of lactose/chocolate milk, along with roasted mocha and other roasted malts, brown sugar, cream, faint vanilla, roasted coffee beans, cocoa powder, and burnt grains.

Tastes lovely of cream and milk chocolate upfront. Notes of roasted coffee beans, burnt toast and grains, a lingering mild smoke after swallowed, and vanilla.

Feels silky smooth, but fluffy if swished around.
