Brown, auburn, copper colors, 1/5" off white head. Mixture of river wood, toffee and tobacco. Brown malt they say.

Nuttiness and earthiness in the taste profile. Chewy mouthfeel. Body approaching porter levels. Mildly hopped, this goes for the English brown style. Dark fruit in the mouthfeel in a small way.

Not a bad beer, but also a style people don't get jazzed up about so easy to see why its no longer around.

Wow this is old apparently not being brewed since 2010 is my guess since the "bottled on" space is blank... really?

A - Wow for being old I got no sediment so it must have been in the cooler most of the time. Little to no head just a slightly sticky lace ring. Color is a hazy dark amber brown.

S - Typical nut ale I get some brown malts, sweet caramels, but this has a very good almond smell to it that catches my attention. Still bright and nutty for it's age.

T - Not bad finish is a bit underwhelming since I get some cardboard oxidation but it does have a distinct sweet body and nutty flavors which are fairly smooth. Hops are non existent.

M - Light to medium not skunked or soured in any way

Overall I am impressed this session ale held up at least a year or older in a cooler. A fairly tasty brown ale and some pretty sweet cover art. Worth the price even though it was old.

I found this review while going through an old beer notebook of mine. The review is from early 2010.

I got this beer as part of the Left Hand sampler 12-pack.

This beer pours a clear orangish copper color. There is about two fingers of off-white head on top. The head has pretty good retention, and it leaves some scattered lace behind on the glass. The color is lighter than I imagined it would be. The nose has a nice bit of caramel and toasted malt in the forefront. There are some aromas of nuts, toffee, and a little bit of hop presence. A pretty nice simple nose on it. The taste starts off with some toasted malt and caramel. There are some flavors of nuts, toffee, and a little bit of chocolate. Also, there is some hop flavor coming through. The taste is much more pronounced than the nose suggests, and it leaves some lingering toasted malt and caramel flavor on the palate. This has a medium body and good carbonation. It goes down easy and has a nice smooth feel to it. There is some good sweetness here and a really mild hop bitterness. This beer has good drinkability. It is a really easy going brown ale, and the flavor is quite nice. This is a beer i can just sit back anytime and just enjoy. It isn't the most flavorful or complex beer, but it is good for what it is and hits the spot. I think this beer is worth trying, but unfortunately now I see that it is retired. Either way, if it makes a come back in the future you should check it out.
