Clear pale straw with a white head. Clean aroma of grassy hops and biscuity malt, that continues to the taste. Slight sweetness from the malt, very mild bitterness. Light to medium bodied. Decent carbonation. A very solid, no thrills pils.

What a beautiful Pilsner style lager, as close to perfection for this old drinkers palate. It's everything I want in a beer. Sharp, crisp yeasty malt flavor with a dry finish. It's what Budweiser would taste like if there was real truth in advertising. If you're a Pilsner lover, don't miss this one, it's a great beer.

It was so delicious, I have never actually had a decent pilsner until this one. It's now also my favorite left hand product.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine July 2007.

A good part of Polestar's authentic appeal comes from the award-winning Weyermann Pilsner Malt that Left Hand uses. This beer has also has a great blend of Perle, Vanguard and Saaz hops. Very pale golden-yellow hue. Clarity is perfect, with lots of tiny bubbles racing to the top. Impeccable head retention, as two fingers froth stick all the way down to the bottom of the glass. Light and fluffy biscuity malt aroma, as well as spicy, grassy hops in the nose. The crispness is so embedded and the smoothness so laid-back, it's incredibly refreshing. Fresh, biscuity malt flavor throughout--simple yet perfect. The grassy hop bitterness is not abrasive in any way, actually comple- menting and balancing out the beer very well. Suggestions of grape skin appear, minimal but persistent. Dry finish with a spicy hop and a clean graininess that lingers.

By far one of the best and most drinkable lagers brewed in the US today; one that gives the German Pilsners a real run for their money--and not on freshness alone. A heaping bowl of piping-hot chili verde will do the trick for a pairing.

Pours faded yellow with a finger of white foam that fell pretty fast but left a thin skin on top and some good lace. Perfect clarity. Nose is pilsner all the way. Yeasty and dank. A touch of lemon and some fresh cut grass. Some spice on a good light malt. A little bit of a mineral quality too. Taste is light biscuit and floral hops. Grassy with a touch of bitter. Body is soft and smooth the malt is airy and light. Really an outstanding pils that isn’t too bitter and offers a graceful malt through out the drink. Finished dry with a delicate texture, a touch bitter and a kiss of honey sweetness. Well done! You could happily drink this beer all day.

I got to pour this beer at a brew fest in Syracuse, NY. It was my first time having it, and I was very pleased with it. Poured a nice clear yellow color (can't give much description on the head, as we were having problems with foaming from the kegs). Nose was a pleasant spicey hop note. Tasted very crisp with a tender malt core and a lingering but not overpowering hop bitterness on the tongue. I'm typically more of a Czech pilsner guy, but this was a great beer to savor. I'll have to search this one out for my personal stash at home.

12oz. bottle. Bottled on 3/8/06, so getting a bit long in the tooth.

Slightly cloudy (a pilsner?), very pale yellow-straw color. Small white head.

Crisp, hop scent - grassy. Touch of molasses.

Light, biscuity background. Nice hop bittering, mainly at finish. An almost medicinal aftertaste that doesn't work for me.

Light in body. Medium carbonation. A bit drying, but not too much.

Nothing special. Probably pretty tasty on a hot summer day if really cold....Only caveat is that it may be a bit old based on the bottling date.

Appearance: 2 fingers of fluffy and thick pure white head that retains well and leaves lacing. The beer itself is yellow and clear with bubbles of carbonation streaming through it. It looks crisp and light.

Aroma: Light, crisp smell. Malty and sweet - a little citrus in the back.

Taste: Ugh. I'm immediately getting fish or dishwater - something is off and it is gross. The taste is nothing like the nose... After a few sips, my palette has adjusted a little, and the taste is less offensive - the off flavors mellow a little, but I still think it's weird. Not a fan.

Mouthfeel: Light and crisp

Notes: Easy to drink, I just don't like it.

Poured aggressively from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass. Just like with the others from this sampler pack, there is a "Bottled On:" on the label that is blank, but I am assuming it's fresh from the distributor since this was not at my local outlet 2 days ago.

A: Pale straw yellow, very clear and nicely filtered. If I didn't know any better, I'd look at it in a glass and assume it was a macro adjunct lager. 1 finger of fluffy white head with very tight and tiny bubbles, very creamy and respectable in consistency. The head sticks around for a respectable length of time, leaving very little lacing.

S: It lost a lot of points here because I really couldn't smell anything from this beer. It literally has almost zero scent. I caught a very faint aroma of hops and that's about it.

T: This is a great tasting pilsner. It has a very simple flavor, not complex at all, starts off with a light citrusy hoppy pine that seems well balanced with a hint of malts. Strengthens up a bit on the finish with more of the same, leaving a bitter hoppy aftertaste that isn't overly piney.

M: I'm gonna go with medium bodied here, though it is a touch on the lighter side, it does have some body. Light carbonation goes down smooth and creamy.

O: This is a fantastic pilsner right here. Certainly very drinkable and certainly something I'd gladly drink again. I wish there was a little more on the nose, but overall I feel like this beer makes for a pretty solid experience. This would make a really good session beer.

12 ounce can poured into a pint glass

A: Pours a very pale clear straw color with a bright white creamy head, lots of carbonation resulting in good head retention.

A: Classic pilsner aromas, earthy, herbal, spicey aromas, light toasted bread, malt, biscuit, smells promising.

T: Short on taste, lemongrass, slight spice notes along with earthiness, low bitterness, finish has bready malts and lemongrass notes, very light.

M: Light, crisp, dry finish.

O: Looks solid, smells good but it really didn't do much on the taste, not as complex as the aroma.

This is a good tasting pils, but that's the only thing that is above average. The taste is exactly what a pilsiner should be. The right amount of hops and bitterness. But not the right amount of aroma. I like more stink.

The beer is well crafted and has not problems but I will avoid it in the future.

12 oz bottle with a spot for 'bottled on' but no stamp. Pours crystal clear with a modest cap of fine-bubbled white head. Retention and lacing are both decent.

Nose is clean, light grains with an equal portion of floral hops. Well balanced and fresh smelling brew.

This one has some unique aspects that make it a little different from the typical, fairly narrow style confines of a pilsner. The malts are super clean with a biscuit dough creaminess and I dont find them to be grainy or husky at all. The hops also lend a somewhat uncommon biting bitterness that is somewhere between grassy, floral and even piney in its lingering aspect. I wouldnt mind seeing more hop flavor and less bitterness. It works ok in the end, but I prefer my pilsners with more grainy/husky malt flavor and a distinctive saaz-y hop flavor with just enough bitterness for balance.

A: Poured a very clear straw yellow. A snow white head that leaves amazing lace all the way down. Visible carbonation was light-medium.

S: Skunk on the open. After that settles down....mostly hop spiciness.

T: The initial flavor was dry with a lot of biscuity malt....along with the bite from the hops. Good for a Pils.

M: Light body with a bit of stickiness.

O: A decent Pils and blows away macro stuff. But a little tame for me compared to a Prima. Drinkable but at the same pricepoint would take a Victory PP instead on most occasions.

Look: poured from bottle into pilsner glass. Pale straw gold, nice thin white head with very little retention and not much lacing. A lot of carbonation

Smell: lemon, grass, some malts, hops, metallic

Taste, Hoppy bitterness up front with some metallic overtones and citrus (mainly lemon) Then malty biscuity sweetness, but but right back to the bitter citrus

Feel: light body and on the dry side

Overall: A pretty good pilsner, would have been better without that coppery overtone in the smell and middle taste

Enjoyed in a pint glass.
A: Aggressive pour yields 1/2 finger of white head. Liquid is a clear, light yellow/straw color. Head disappears except for a tiny ring, though this beer is well carbonated - actively bubbly. The only detractor is the lack of head.
S: Honey, euro-hops, a slight metallic smell as it warms. Not much there, but mostly good.
T: Crisp sweetness followed by modest bittering. Gimme another sip! Light malt. a little metallic flavor is the only negative. I like overall though!
M: Perfect carbonation, Delightfully crisp and clean. The metalic notes are the only negative.
D: A great session beer. I could have several of these. It doesn't wow me though, so it's not perfect.

Poured into a stange glass. "Born on date" clearly stamped on bottle neck.

The body is slightly hazy bright light golden yellow. The head is a fantastic fluffy compact white mountain that laces like crazy and lasts seemingly forever. Seriously, maybe the best head I have seen on an American made Pilsener.

The nose is a bit muted by the awesome head, but I can smell sweet grass, extra pale malts, lightly toasted white bread, and some very light and mild hops.

The flavor of this beer is quite easy going. It isn't watery or light, but it does take it easy as it fills the senses. Thus the malts are light and soft, the hops are even softer and provide a kiss of flavor (sweet grass and a touch of floral) and a quaint dose of bitterness. Nothing attacks, but it doesn't feel terribly lacking either.

The mouthfeel is much smoother and softer than some German Pilseners can be, but I feel that this is still a good example. I enjoy sipping it.

Conclusion: This is another thoughtful and well crafted beer from Left Hand, which is earning my respect with each new beer I try. I enjoy the laid back character of this beer, and the soft but clean flavors it provides.
