This AIPA is far from ordinary - it has unique hop and malt tastes you won't find elsewhere.

The brew pours darker than AIPAs - redder - with nice foam and lacing. The aroma is unusually funky - almost nutty. The taste is very out of the ordinary. It's as it somebody poured some other funky brew into a glass of AIPA. Odd malt tastes mix with unexpected tones from hops. The whole thing leaves you with more of a red ale experience with bittering.

Highly recommended as an alternative to the usual AIPA - it's not what you would expect.

Poured from a 12oz can stamped "Best by 05/08/18" to a tulip.
Body is deep amber, not hazy buy not see-through. Head is frothy, high and "chunky". Head fades in about 3-minutes to nice lacing with small bubbles on the surface and a remaining "island" of froth. Maybe I could retire on that island.
Aroma is a balanced hop/malt mix, each distinguishable, but yet simultaneous.
Taste follows, but the two are separated and in reverse order from many beers. Nice sweet coating up front, fades almost instantly to hop bite with a real dry finish.
Overall nice.

12 oz can. Pours hazy orange red with a big fluffy off white head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet nutty grainy caramel malt with some fruity cola.

The flavor is sweet grainy caramel malt with some fruity apple and a slightly harsh ashy green bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a bit thin.

Overall, too much sweet malt with harsh hops.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber. Moderate amount of bubbles and a big two finger off white head which settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: An earthy and toasty hop driven aroma with a scent of pine, citrus, and caramel. Earthy hop scent of pine resin and grass. Citrus hints of orange peel, lemon, and grapefruit. Malt scent of caramel, toffee, toast, grains, and cracker with some yeast. A pretty solid Red IPA aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, an earthy and toasty hop forward taste with notes of pine, citrus, and caramel. Earthy hop notes of grass and pine resin. Citrus hop notes of grapefruit, lemon, and orange peel. Malt notes of caramel, toffee, toast, cracker, and grains along with yeast. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Fairly oily, chewy, and drying.

Overall: A very solid take on a Red IPA. Nice ripe hop presence with a good red caramel malt backing.

A nice riff on hoppy red/IPA genre here from Left Hand. I don't tend to associate these guys with hops and was a little apprehensive going into this beer, fearing a sweetish malt bomb. But, at the first crack of the can, I realized this one was what it should be -- nice burst of aromatic hops, some sweetened fruit, light caramel, touch of pine. Similar palate, balancing the malt with a sturdy hop bitterness, which I personally think is key to this style -- not letting that specialty malt sweetness get out of control. Smooth mouthfeel. Overall, a red that should satisfy the hopheads.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark bronze amber with a two finger ivory head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of bready and lightly biscuit malt, grassy hops, berry and light tropical fruit. Flavor is biscuit malt, dark berries, hints of lemon citrus, mixed fruit, grassy and tropical fruit oriented hops. The profile is a classic hoppy red ale. Nice light creaminess to the body, good mouth feel. Tough ale to review; it is not really quite hoppy enough to shine as an IPA, but the red ale part is very nice. I'm going to review this as a hoppy red ale because I liked it and don't feel like knocking points off for style on this one. Looks nice, great mouth feel and nice malty red ale body. I liked this quite a bit. I haven't had a Left Hand brew for a while and may have to check them out more regularly.

Can poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours reddish orange copper amber with a frothy khaki head that settles to a firm layer and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Fruity, some tropical notes, pine, citrus zest, slightly toasty crackery malt, and and toffee sweetness.

T: Spicy pine, citrus, lemon and tangerine zest, some fruity notes, red berries, a little passion fruit, maybe mango, slightly toasty crackery malt, and a little toffee sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderately lively carbonation.

O: Cool use of some very interesting experimental hops. Solid red IPA.

Best by 6/2/17. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy dark auburn with a big chunky off-white head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are subtle and malt forward. Hints of citrus and caramel. The flavors are clean and refreshing. Some orange and grapefruit in the mix. Caramel is there. The malts are there, but they don't seem to shine or dominate. It's not sweet at all with a moderate bitterness. Finishes clean. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter and thinner side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.

This is an alright "Red IPA". It's nothing flashy or crazy, but there's nothing wrong with it at all. Once again, it's clean and refreshing.
