Pours an effervescent amber with a thumb of ivory colored head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Pears & yeastyness

T: Faint raspberry notes along with dryness & pears up front. A little juicy fruit as this warms, some more pear & sour & sweet cherry. Finishes dry with a little pear, grassyness & faint green banana notes

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation

A solid, not great saison

16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 12/10/2017. Pours slightly hazy medium golden/yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lightly tart cherry, lemon, berries, peach, pear, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, rye, biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, chokecherries, bready/rye malt, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big lightly tart cherry, lemon, berries, peach, pear, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, rye, biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of lightly tart cherry, lemon, berries, peach, pear, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, rye, biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, chokecherries, bready/rye malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fairly clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from yeast spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, fairly crisp, and slightly tangy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.8%. Overall this is a very nice fruited saison. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, chokecherries, bready/rye malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and quite refreshing to drink; with the modestly spicy/drying finish. Very well rounded saison yeast complexity; nice malty backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. Nice chokecherry fruit presence without much added acidity or tang. A very enjoyable offering. On the maltier side for a saison, but still a very nice style example.

I picked up a can of Left Hand's Saison Aux Baies Ameres last week for $2.59 at The Lager Mill. I'm not sure I've had a beer that's been brewed with Chokecherry and I'm interested to see how this one turns out, so let see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a 16oz pint can into a stemless tulip.

A- The can looks nice, it's got a nice and simple design to it and it's just a little eye catching. It poured a slightly hazy orange amber color that didn't change when held to the light and it had a finger and a half worth of bubbly off white head that didn't leave much lacing behind and and it died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away. This is a nice looking beer, but I wish it had better head retention and lacing.

S- The aroma starts off slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the yeast being the first to show up and it imparts a combination of spicy saison yeast aromas and lightly funky aromas with a little bit of a barnyard like aroma coming through. Up next comes the chokecherries which a sharp and tart cherry like aroma with some berry aspects showing up in the background. Towards the end comes the malts which impart some grainy, pale malt, bready, doughy and sweet malt like aroma. The aroma is pretty nice, there's just enough complexity to it and the chokecherry aromas are nice.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but lighter and it starts off with yeast this time which shows up just as much as it did in the aroma, but this time there's no funky aspects, it's just straight up spicy saison yeast like flavors and that goes into the malts which are lighter than they were in the aroma and they are as bready and dough y as they were in the aroma. Up next comes the chokecherries which are lighter than they were in the aroma, but they impart the same aspects and they show up enough to still be noticeable. On the finish there's hardly any bitterness with just a little bit of tartness showing up and it has a saison yeast and chokecherry like aftertaste. This a pretty nice tasting beer, I think the balance could be a little better, but I liked how the chokecherries worked with the saison base.

M- Smooth, fairly refreshing, slightly fizzy, a little crisp, medium bodied with a slightly lower amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I thought it was a solid example of the style, I wasn't really sure what to expect from the Chokecherries, but they ended up imparting a nice flavors that worked well with the saison base. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple of these, especially in the summertime. What I like the most about this beer is that the chokecherries, they were nice and they worked well with this beer. What I liked the least about this beer is the appearance, it's not bad looking, but it would be nice if it had better lacing and head retention. I would buy this beer again when looking for a fruity saison that's a little on the lighter side and I would recommend it to anyone looking for the same. All in all I was happy with this beer and it turned out to be a nice summertime beer and I liked more than I thought I would. It's one of the better Left Hand beers that I've had lately and it's a nice example of the style. Nice job guys, this is a nice and unique saison, keep it up.

Love the brewer, Love the concept of seasonal with seasonal additions, like natural tangy chokeberries. Well done.

A) Pours a pinkish, golden amber body with ruby highlights. Like most saisons a bright, sparky head, but as with most fruit beers, fades fast and laces little, still great effort on the color.
S) Classic but fruity aroma of a saison...Farmhouse belgian style aromas of sweet and sour yeast with noticable wine-like notes from the chokeberries. Great first beer of the evening or apertif. I'd serve in tiny glasses with either a first course, a salad, oysters, or with a change course like a sorbet.
T) Follows smell, but a bit too sweet and fruity. Wine-like. Liked the aroma 1 notch better. As noted more in direction of German Hefeweizen with banana and herbs, than true Belgique saison.
F) Crisp, zippy, brightly carbonated, finishes clean. This grew on me.

O) Sweet malt and sour ChokeCherries make for an earthy, balanced, wine-like, and slightly tart and bitter beer.. earthy, sour kick in the aftertaste is winning.

Pours a clear gold with minimal foam and little lacing. I smell Brett, flowery and fruity mix of bitter and very light tartness. Some yeasty notes with a dash of pepper. Cherries come across as lightly tart, some bitterness, kinda spicy, honey like flavour. Light bodied, pretty good mouthfeel overall. Good enough but not a beer that I would buy/drink often.

Saison Aux Baies Ameres has a medium, pinkish-white, somewhat fizzy head, a rose appearance, with powdery sediment throughout, some lazy ascending bubbles, and minimal glass lacing. Aroma is rather muted, but one can, with effort, detect faint fruit and cereal grain. Taste is of the farmhouse brett, Cherrios, and berry fruit. Mouthfeel is medium and a bit slick, and Saison Aux Baies Ameres finishes mostly dry.

16 oz can. Pours clear gold with a little pink and a fizzy white head that retains fairly well and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fruit with grainy malt and dry alcohol.

The flavor is sweet cola malt with fruit and grain and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with prickly carbonation.

Overall, just OK.
