Brewed by:
Left Hand Brewing Company
Colorado, United States

Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.60%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is no festivus for the restivus, on the contrary, we start brewing in the spring and it takes a full two months to reach lagered perfection. Biscuity, malty goodness dominates upfront while the noble pedigree hops lend a properly spicy, dry finish.

9/24/17...pours dep auburn red. light foam lays down. Bready malty nose. Light caramels. Malt loaded, with a sugary caramel sweetness rounded off by a quick peppery bite. Toasty. Largely clean but the hop really closes hard. Nicely made Oktoberfest.

Wonderfully brilliant dark copper body with perfect clarity. 1 1/2 finger beige head.
Malty and toasty with some bitter caramel sweetness.
Bready and malty in the flavor. A touch of French caramel, a touch of taffy. Just enough of a medicinal hop character to balance things out. The finish is a dry graininess with a touch of spice and a nuttiness throughout.
The soft and pillowy mouth feel is on point and with the right amount of carbonation to keep the layered but delicate malts from becoming heavy.

If only this beer had that malty, bready lingering satisfaction I look for it would be at the head of the class. Definitely one of the better domestic Marzens out there.

I have tried this beer 3 times and have yet to think it tastes anything better than average or worse. I found it to have a strong alcohol flavor in a bad way. The everything else seemed muted. Might try it a fourth. I am a huge fan of the style but this just didn't do it for me. YMMV

This one pours a clear light brown, with a small white head, and a good bit of lacing.

This smells like bittersweet caramel, spicy brown bread, and spicy hops.

This is definitely a little bit too sweet for the style, but it's still very good. It's got caramel leading the way, with a healthy dose of spicy hops keeping it very balanced, and a nice amount of breadiness.

This is medium bodied, crisp and pretty clean, with a good level of carbonation.

This is definitely one of the better domestic examples of the style. Not the best, but very close.

Deep copper color with a thinner white head from tap. Nutty and toasted malt in the nose of this brew. Sweet caramel malt flavored brew with some hop bitterness on the edge of this brew. This beer has more body than most Oktoberfest beers which is a plus with a decent amount of carbonation.

Served in a snifter, this beer was a dark brown with a modest off white head. There was a bit of lace.
Sweet malt aroma.
Caramel taste Not much in the way of hops.
Medium-bodied. Sweet.

L - See-through copper pour with two-finger, light tan head. No lacing, which was a little disappointing.
S - Bready malt with minimal hop noticability.
T - Malt forward and a little sweet.
F - Medium bodied with minimum carbonation.
O - A good beer overall. Probably a good drink by the fire beer (which I didn't do tonight). Worth having again.

Left Hand Oktoberfest brewed by Left Hand Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.60% This Oktoberfest pours out a nice deep golden brown color with a nice small white head. I really like the copper color of this brew. There is some thin spotty lacing to this brew. It dose stick to the side of the glass somewhat. The smell is rich grains and malts. You also pick up a nice amount of hop bitterness in the smell, along with a slight sweetness. Now for the taste, it is Bold and rich with flavors. You pick up a nice smooth roasted grains and malts. The hops are nice mild bitterness not overpowering. That slight sweetness is a real nice note to this Oktoberfest brew. There is a lot going on in this Oktoberfest, one of the more enjoyable ones. The body of Left Hand Oktoberfest is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. It is really hard to pick up on the 6.60% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich,Smooth, was. And Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Left Hand Oktoberfest a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Left Hand Brewing Company, did a real nice job with this brew.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a medium dark orange color, somewhat rusty with a quickly dissipating foamy to bubbly sort of head that barely left any lace.
The aroma had some crisp sweet nuts, semi-stiff caramel/toffee malts and a smooth sweet bready to biscuit character blending nicely. Light grassy hop bitterness at the end.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a sly grassiness at the end ever so slightly. Aftertaste was all about the malts - crisp, nutty and full of caramel/toffee sweetness
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt a touch under, but that didn't bother me. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, pretty nice American Oktoberfest that I would come back to.

Poured directly from the bottle into a Saint Arnold stein glass. The beer itself is a lovely amber color and there was only a minor head before it dissipated. The beer is a very solid Oktoberfest, which is exactly what I was looking for. It has a solid wheat taste up front with a bit of sweetness that doesn't linger long after. Over all, I will be getting more of these for drinking and if you're looking for a very solid Oktoberfest beer I would recommend it.

Got a sample of this so I thought I would try out a 6 pack. Upfront malt but lacking in the body found in good german marzens. Has a dry finish. Its an easy drinker but falls a little short for the style. Overall not a terrible beer but nothing that makes it stand out.
