Look: It was a little cold when I started I had to wake it up to get the carbonation going but when I did a tan foam developed with a nice high head and as it regressed came down to a milky small bubble sudsy sort of hot chocolate and cream.
Smell It smells good Not a lot of roast smell but I did smell a hop note subtle but distinct..
Taste: I taste the malt And there's a little bit of a hop pinch... That hop pinch is deliberate... And it's completely appropriate for a stout...
I pick pick up a distinct taste it might be from those hops It might be water conditioning. Upon reflection and looking at the malt bill I see that there's some other things going on with the grains and the oats and maybe some adjuncts knowing this I would expect some additional complexity. Maybe that's what I was picking up on.
Mouthfeel:
With the milk stout I'm expecting a little more velvet a little more smoothness... Some magic sweetness from the lactose. I'm waiting for this one to open up and there's lots of complexity there... I feel the alcohol working... It actually feels stronger than 6%
Overall: This is Stout through and through. It in mellows a bit as it warms... I'm the end it eventually show its milky character but that wasn't forward. I don't want to say it was hop forward but there's a noticeable bitterness and a lacking of sweetness... Initially, which is likely more of a style choice than a character flaw... But leaning more traditional than milky.
I might judge this one differently in a different category of stout... I had sheboygan's 15-2... That one should have had a cow... It is much more of what I think of for milk stout.

12 oz bottle from Total Wine and More in Short Pump, VA The stout poured an opaque black with a small tan head and limited lacing. The aroma of roasted malts, milk chocolate, and hints of vanilla greet your senses. The stout is a wonderful stout with a creamy body and delicious flavors of chocolate and roasted malts. The stout has a medium body with a soft carbonation.

Left hand milk stout is the next evolution of Guinness in my opinion. It's easy drinking while still having plenty of flavor. It's not complex but it serves It's purpose well. Left hand always delivers on the stouts
