As you'd expect this beer pours a pitch black with a small tan coloured head.

The smell is strong on the coffee with some milkiness as well as.

The taste is milky and sweet up front, finishing with just some of the roasty coffee flavour promised by the nose and just a very small amount of bitterness.

The mouthfeel is fairly light for a stout but it adds to the milky feel for me, the carbonation light to medium.

Overall I really enjoyed this beer, the milky flavour is much more pronounced than other milk/sweet stout that I've had and it works pretty well.

12 oz bottle poured into nonic pint

Appearance - Dark, but not pitch black, amber tinge around the edges if held up to light. Pillowy tan head with wonderful lacing and retention.

Smell - Roasted malt, coffee, sweetness.

Taste - Yummm. Bittersweet, creamy coffee with a bit of cream in it. Malt.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, light carbonation, smooooth. Not as thick as I thought it was going to be (this was my first milk stout) .

Overall - Yummy! I look forward to trying more Left Hand brews and sweet stouts! Highly recommend this beer.

A: To be honest, camping in the twilight hours made this one difficult. Also drinking from the bottle limited our view.

S: From the small opening we could access, initial scents of coffee were present.

T: Coffee, creamy chocolate, roasted nuts flavors. Milk sweetness which can only be compared to that of dairy. Not a significant aftertaste.

M: So smooth. Medium body with very mild carbonation. It really felt like skim milk going down. Crisp and clean finish.

O: Easy to drink milk stout. Would definitely buy again!

Food pairing/(what we actually ate it with): We enjoyed with hamburgers on ciabatta buns. It complimented the beef so a more thoughtful pairing might included your choice of red meat.
