Bottle poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery snifter

A: Pours basically black with a frothy khaki head that settles to a thin layer and leaves a little light lacing.

S: Mint comes out first, followed by roasted malt, a little char, chocolate, earthy herbal notes, and a touch of toffee sweetness.

T: Roasty, a touch of char, chocolate, mint, earthy herbal notes, and a little toffee sweetness.

M: Light body, moderate carbonation, faintly creamy.

O: Taste is kinda like a York Peppermint Patty, but it's crazy thin, especially for a milk stout. Not sure why they dropped it to 5.1% from the usual 6%. Keeping it there woulda probably have been about right. Might have to try it as a beer float.

From the shoulder of the bottle, in smudged yellow ink: "Best by:04/20/2022"

Appearance: The body of the beer is dark brown where light is visible but black for the most part. It has a large khaki head that has a lumpy and creamy texture. It has very good head retention and leaves nice lacing.

Aroma: Notes of coffee come out of the glass immediately. There are rich notes of espresso and some burnt caramel with a hint of pine. It smells nice.

Taste: Up front there is pine. Towards the middle of the mouth there is a bit of burnt wood flavor and roasted malt character. These flavors stay consistent throughout the back of the palate. The aftertaste is pine.

Mouthfeel: It is smooth-textured with a medium to medium-full body. It has a mild roasted malt and hop bitterness. Very easy to drink and quite enjoyable.

Overall: The name of the beer is "Mint Chocolate MILK STOUT" the label lists "Ingredients: Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted chocolate barley, lactose, rolled oats, hops, peppermint, cane sugar, yeast." It doesn't smell or taste like chocolate or mint. As a Milk Stout it is good and there is this nice pine flavor but it never tastes like the mint chocolate chip ice cream that it advertises as a picture on the label. It is a good beer but it will likely disappoint somebody who enjoys mint and chocolate. Based on the lack of advertised flavors I would not buy it again or recommend it.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that has good retention

S- roasted barley and a hint of char up front, followed by some milky lactose that adds a hint of vanilla. Light mint starts to pop as it warms, comes across as minty tooth paste

T- sweet milky lactose up front gives notes of milk sugars and vanilla. MId-palate brings out mint, giving a toothpaste like minty note that is followed by chocolate and charred malt. The finish gives more mint, with a linger of roasted barley and milk sugar

M- medium-light body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns slightly creamy into the finish

O- mint is stronger in taste than in aroma, but comes across a bit artificial at times, otherwise well balanced

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of mint, milk chocolate, caramel and toffee. Good minty taste but not overpowering. Milk chocolate and toffee backbone.

A delicious mint chocolate stout. I'm getting tons of herbal mint flavor. Leafy, cooling, almost green tea tasting at times. This is not mint extract at all. It tastes like they put loads of fresh mint leaves into the brew. Light on chocolate flavor the mint is really the star here. With a lovely base stout to round it all out this beer is perfect for mint lovers without being overwhelming with the mint.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a dark brown color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over a moderate time frame leaving lots of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is minty and chocolaty with notes of biscuit and bready malt smells. Along with these aromas comes some roasted notes and a bit of caramel and coffee. Overall, the nose is reminiscent of a thin mint cookie.
Taste – The taste starts off with a roasted malt flavor mixed with light notes of cocoa and a decent showing of mint. The sweetness is lighter then anticipated from the nose, being a mix of light milk chocolate flavors mixed with a bit of brown sugar and caramel. As the taste advances more mint and roast join the taste, with a little bit of crème joining in as well. At the same time a touch of char and some bitter coffee notes also arrive on the tongue, leaving one with a minty, moderately dry, and bitter-sweet chocolatey flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather high. The feel is decent for the flavor profile and abv., keeping it easy drinking, all while still decently accentuating the dark and roasty flavors.
Overall – A decent milk stout with a nice cooling mint flavor.

Copper with a 1/4" tan head, which fades to a wisp. Light lacing.

Aroma of cocoa, roast malt, faint mint.

Taste is cocoa, slight mint, coffee, roast malt, a bit of astringency.

Medium body, light carbonation. Dry finish.

Mint seems a bit light, otherwise, decent.

This actually was still pretty good. This year's milk box as a whole was really good. The mint is there and not aggressive, the body is good which is great since these aren't imperial or anything. I prefer the stronger mint chocolate stouts I've tried but this is good and affordable

"Best by 4/20/22"; drank 11/23/21 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; frothy tree-rung lace.

Chocolate mint & fresh earth notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Mint, cream, fresh earth & chocolate flavors.

A bit thin, but this had a nice mint flavors that wasn't over the top. A nice treat.

This beer was both very good and a little disappointing at the same time. While I'm glad it didn't overpower with a fake minty flavor, I actually did want a bit more mint to be noticeable. It's a fine line, admittedly, but I felt like it could have been a bit better. It's not a syrupy sweet dessert beer, so don't be turned off by the idea of a mint chocolate stout. It's more like that mellow ice cream that you like once in a while on a hot day.
