From the bottom of the can: "03/28/17 @10:21:52"

Appearance: The body is opaque and the color of burnt umber and orange. The head is short but fluffy and white. It has considerably less head than the standard hefeweizen but it still is a nice looking beer.

Aroma: I am a slightly peppery, clove-like aroma from the beer. There is a light bit of bubblegum.

Taste: Up front I get a strong dose of clove and earthy noble hop flavor. That flavor carries through to the end where it is met at the finish by a bit of cedar and pepper. It is very fresh tasting.

Mouthfeel: It has an excellent texture. It is full bodied and it just feels thick. Although it feels thicker than most other hefeweizens it is very enjoyable and it works really well with the full flavor of the beer.

Overall: When you open the can what you end up with is a full bodied and full flavored beer that is very satisfying to drink. It tastes fresh and it is just an overall enjoyable beer to drink. I would recommend looking for this beer if you enjoy a good hefeweizen. I will be buying it again.

Wasserhund Brewing Co. "German Shepheweizen"
on tap at the brewery on 19 June 2017

Notes: 5.9% ABV, 15 IBUs. Appearance is as expected for a hefeweizen with a cloudy golden-orange body beneath a fluffy bright white head. Better than "very good" head retention and lacing. Wheaty malt with clove and subtle spiciness in the aroma. Grassy & spicy hops mix with clove and very light banana in the flavor amidst its lightly sweet wheaty malt. Spiciness lingers in the surprisingly dry finish. Medium bodied with a fine-bubbled, slightly elevated carbonation that tingles. Refreshing.

Golden in color and slightly cloudy. Big fizzy head and very light, spotty lacing. Aroma is of yeast and some barnyard smells. Taste is banana, assorted citrus and wheat. Finish is fairly clean and finish is full of bananas

All clove on the nose, too much bite and no balance on the palate. A very poor execution of their attempt at their style that you kind of hang your hat on. Poured from a can, dissapointing.

German Shepheweizen Wasserhund Brewing Company 5.9% ABV.
I had this from a 12 ounce can poured into a tulip beer glass. I got this down in Virginia Beach, where it is brewed. It was cool to get the local stuff while in town. I had a great trip and enjoyed the sites.

Look: golden, hazey, white head with lacing.
Smell: grain, wheat, lemon, citrus.
Taste: sweet, sour, slight bittering on the tale end of the sip.
Feel: light and refreshing with substance.
Overall: I thought this would be a good choice because I love the banana taste that comes from a good hefe, but that was non-existent here. No bubblegum, banana, maybe a slight bit of clove and citrus. I wasn't really a huge fan of the shepheweizen, but it wasn't horrible. This might not have been the greatest introduction to Virginia beer. I have had three different kinds of beers from the area so far and they all seem bland. Let me know what's up Virginians!

Had it on tap and also in can later. This is a very nice, heady, weizen with good straw coloring and a retentive head, a bit frothy. Taste is quite good to my palate. This is a small brewpub worth keeping an eye on. Do visit when on a trip to Virginia Beach cause this is a locals hangout. Not a tourist trap.
