Vic Pierce exists for one purpose only: to sell beer between the hours of 9:00 pm and 12:00 pm. That’s it.

I have had bad experiences buying old beer here. Many of their beers are covered in thick layers of dust. Some that aren’t are old enough to be.

The prices are also a bit higher then they ought to be simply because Vic Pierce’s unique location has affords them a virtual monopoly on post 9:00 pm sales in Madison.

Vic Pierce will get the job done between nine and twelve if you’re careful with what you’re purchasing. Otherwise, this is a liquor store to avoid.

Ok, I didn't know how to rate this one. As everyone in Wisconsin knows, you generally can't buy beer past 9 p.m. This especially sucks for college kids who want to do some pre-partying and ran out of beer, but they don't quite want to go out yet and spend the big bucks at the bars. What do you do? You go to Vic Pierce.

Vic Pierce is open to 12pm, everyday. That's basically why I gave it a 5.0 for service. The selection is ok, but I must admit, it seems to get better as time goes on.

One problem - I don't think they rotate their stock too much. I've seen some pretty old bottles sitting out on sale that have dust on them. Stick to the coolers, and check the dates on bottles.

A somewhat typical liquor store, with just enough of a selection to make a stop worthwhile.
Most of the usual WI micro suspects, as well as most of the limited releases. 750s of Unibroue (which compared to the 4 packs, are a bit of a rarity around here). Ommegang. Dogfish, including, sometimes WWS. Prices are competitive.

It does hold a trump card, in that it is the only liquor store in Madison (or anywhere in the area) to be open past 9PM..Open until midnight, everyday. It manages this since it is technically in the town of Maple Bluff, located squarely within Madison's Northeast side. There is also a late-night surcharge which takes average to above average prices up another notch. But you can't really gripe when there's no other game in town at those hours. The patrons get a little shady late at night. Arm yourself appropriately.
