Imperial Stout brewed with a touch of boysenberry and a ridiculous amount of maple syrup.

A: opaque; very dark brown - virtually black in color; 2 finger finely pored dark brown head that receded to a skim cap; no lacing;

S: deeply roasted grain and maple with bittersweet chocolate and a bit of boysenberry tartness way in the background;

T: a really nice balance between deeply roasted grain, maple, and boysenberry from start to finish; at times, one or another of the flavors would pop to the front; moderate bitterness at the end;

M: full bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish; soft and smooth; ABV is barely warming;

O: really well done;

The definitive breakfast brew! Forget the pancakes, maple syrup, butter and fruit! This beer rocks the breakfast palette! It just needs a side of bacon!

Dark brown with an excellent tan head, amazing considering its high ABV. Very aptly named: Double Maple Pusher. Aroma: maple, maple & more maple. It is sweet. Lots of maple flavor with some brown sugar, caramel, coffee, chocolate, alcohol with a strong boysenberry finish. Thick, smooth as ice, mild heat. Less carbonation than expected. Some may not appreciate its sweetness but I am not afflicted with that shortcoming. Overall; excellent. Big on the pancakes!

Thickish, midnight pour. Smooth looking khaki head that audibly fizzles away. Prefaces a sticky feel and full-med finish with hints of heat and alcohol.

Wow! This beer really brings me back to my youth, and of tugging at the wide-necked glass bottle of Knott's Berry Farm Boysenberry as it refused to budge from the bottom shelf of my refrigerator door. Although not an exact comparison (there was no maple harmed in the production of that syrup) maybe it's a mix of pure maple syrup and their boysenberry jam perhaps? Or, of any tourist shop in the Canadian Rockies with shelves laden with bags huckleberry candies and mason jars of maple syrup.
Aroma aside, the woodsy, leaf-pile sweet flavor accompanied by a slightly charred marshmallow is tempered by the piquant presence of berry guts on a molded pulp container. Lots of ying-yang in the flavor with the roastiness of a diner coffee (barely) and the maple fudginess of Holly's car on the ride back from NH (lots because she couldn't help herself from eating some maple candies). There is a little medicinal overlap where you feel like the maple sweetness is covering for something grotesque like grape Dimetapp, but that flavor was literally the silver in the lining of being sick as a child. So, from Saturday breakfast to getting sick, this beer really ran the gamut on my childhood emotions.

DATE: February 5, 2021... OCCASION: the EBF continues... GLASSWARE: the official BA fest plastic glass... pours a black body. as expected... its head is a finger's worth of oatmeal brown that holds well into the drinking... woody, pulpy brown sugar, maple syrup, pancake, and the boysenberry create a sweetness that compliments the cake quality well enough... brother Jer says it has a McGriddle quality--sausage?--while the pancake is front and center... the syrup is there too--man, this is odd and fun to experience... the finish is like a fireside inhale, slightly smoky and satisfying... its presence is full-bodied, staunch and empowering... warming and thick, regardless of what the brewer says! Straight 4.5s across the board--easy score for a beer that clearly did its homework--cool label too...

Black a little syrupy thick. Smell of warming maple is present, and damn it is good. The flavors have some berry sweetness of the boysenberry, along with sweet malts and maple candy. I am curious where they get the maple from; its incredible. Finish is hearty but not overbearing. This is a well hidden 11%abv stout, and for my first Great Notion beer I'm now spoiled. Exceptional.

Can from Half-time/BA for EBF 2021. Pours black with a finger of mocha brown head that dissipates, smell wafts out of the glass with maple syrup soaked chocolate chip pancakes, toasted marshmallows, coffee, nice roast character, husky dankness, and barnyardiness, taste follows the nose with big maple character, vanilla, melted fudge chocolate sauce, pancakes, hint of sour berry sweetness and roast coffee, this beer is full bodied, velvety carbonation, finishes dry. Essence of maple syrup and chocolate chip flapjacks with coffee, j’adore.

-part of the 2021 EBF lineup. -having this two weeks after the fest. This is an extreme brew.

The ebony can pour is opaquely dark. It opened with a gush of dark tan foam, but settled to a no visible carbonation.
The aroma is from the maple sugar house, rich beyond belief.
The flavor is dominated by maple syrup. There are aspects of toasted marshmallow, chocolate malt and some raspberry. The fruit flavor increases with time and perhaps warming.
The mouthfeel is sticky and coating.
The abv is well hidden.
I am pleased to have had an opportunity to enjoy this.

Pours black with a sudsy dark tan head, and literally HURLS maple aromas from the can as soon as you pop the top - like a literal maple tsunami. There’s also some char and brown sugar and a smidge of fruit from the boysenberry.

I was worried the taste would be too sweet from all the maple, but the tartness from the boysenberry is the perfect foil for the maple sweetness, and the little bit of char works really well.

The mouthfeel is full and approaches creamy. This to me is what an extreme beer should be - pushing boundaries, but maintaining a flavor profile that will work for most experienced beer nerds. Mission accomplished, IMHO.
