Poured from a bottle into a Chimay tulip

L: Cloudy mahogany/cherry colored pour with thin off-white head. Solid lacing.

S: Cherry pie... tart and fruity.

T.F: Outstanding... light grains give way to sweet/tart baking cherry. Not sour per se, but crisp and refreshing... great authentic cherry flavor. Tastes like baking/cooking cherries and cherry pie. Lighter oak, berry flavors, and a bit of funk. Zesty carbonation... light bodied.

O: An awesome beer. Just super flavor... perfectly balanced. One of the best Saisons I've ever had.

This one pours a slightly hazy golden red color, with a small head, and a few little sheets of lacing.

This smells like sweet cherry pie filling, spicy oak, strawberry jelly, spice, and leather.

This is definitely a bit sweeter than the earthiness/spiciness of the Balaton variant. There's still a bit of cherry pit/leather/vague spice here, but I get mostly just get sweet and very lightly tart cherry filling, with some effervescent strawberry tones, too. I love how these beers are just a pure expression of the cherry themselves, and aren't that tart or funky.

This is light bodied, crisp and unbelievably clean, with a good level of carbonation.

The Merkel series represents some of the best use of cherry I've ever experienced in a beer. This is really excellent.
