Ommegang and HBO® announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration series. Through its first three seasons, the critically acclaimed drama has become the biggest show on HBO.

Named after the motto of House Targaryen, Fire and Blood is inspired by Daenerys Targaryen and her three dragons, Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. To celebrate the rebirth of dragons, three different labels were created by the Game of Thrones visual effects specialists, each depicting one of Daenerys' feared dragons. Randomly distributed amongst the cases, each case will contain all three bottles.

On sale March 31, in time for the debut of Season 4, Fire and Blood makes for the perfect season premiere pairing. The beer is available in 750ml bottles and 1/6 barrel kegs.

Fire & Blood is a 6.8% ABV Red ale, brewed with pilsner, Cara-60, Midnight Wheat, flaked rye and spelt. Assertive hopping includes CTZ, Styrian Golding and German Tettnang hops. Spiced with de-seeded Ancho chilies. Fire & Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt & slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character. A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops & rye.

Bottled 12/4/13; drank 5/29/21 (!) @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy red rust appearance.

An even pour yielded a nice khaki head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.

Cream, raspberry & faint rye spice notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Cream & raspberry flavors up front; faint pepper heat on the finish. As this warmed, the pepper heat faded to almost nothing; however, it built up a tiny bit on the lips.

Full disclosure: I never had a plan to age this beer over 7 years; a friend aged it in decent circumstances but forgot about it & gifted it to me. Fresh, I probably would have hated this; I think hot peppers have no place in beer. However, the base beer has aged incredibly well and the peppers have faded to an afterthought; I like this, and the well-brewed base beer is the reason. An odd review, but it's my truth. Huzzah!

750ml bottle from bundle at Albertsons. Somewhere between a dark amber and a light brown, small cap of beige head. Malty aroma with savory touches. Taste is also malty, not sweet, with the peppers coming in very late in the game, with a minor spiciness that lingers on the tongue. Good weight and feel.

Poured from a bottle - not quite clear mahogany with off white head leaving moderate lacing. Nose is very mild as is the taste, not getting any chili or spice. Slight yeastiness and a rather dry finish. Not sure how old this is, seems the flavors have faded. Still a decent quaff.

Fire and Blood was the first of the three GoT beers I tried in my gift set. It was the best one as well. The funny thing about this beer is that there is no chile or spice, which is kind of an oxymoron with the name. However the beer is very balanced. It has all the characteristics of a solid amber ale. It is malty, slightly bitter, and easy to drink. The 750ml bottle goes down pretty efficiently.

This was really yummy! I liked the look, especially the nice frothy head, except that for a beer called "Fire and Blood" it didn't really have a striking redness to it. More of an auburn color, at best. Nice Belgian flavor and mouthfeel, although I wished some of the advertised flavors came through more - I didn't get a noticeable ancho chili taste or smell. I shared a 750mL bottle with my wife, who only drank a small portion, so I ended up drinking most of the bottle in one sitting. And I enjoyed it start to finish, which is a good indication that it was complex and drinkable enough that I didn't get tired of it at all.

-effervescent amber bottle pour with a light candi sugar aroma. The flavor is distinctly Belgian. Earthy malt notes and a bit of toffee are included. The mouthfeel is fuzzy and the body is light. This is a somewhat odd style mix, but tasty.

Surprisingly still drinkable after six years in my basement. Hazy red color with a nice head. You can taste some fruit and a spicy after taste

Had this from a bottle.
A: pours a dark red (blood?) body with a small, off-white head with minimal retention and lacing
S: yeasty ester smells with some hints of banana
T: yeasty, light toffee taste with a very subtle Smokey, spicy finish.
M: medium bodied, slightly overcarbonated
O: ok beer overall; taste is a little light and feel is a little on the over carbonated side.

Decanted from a 25.4 oz (750 ml) bottle into Ommegang/Game of Thrones tulip; no production information, but a 2019 release.
A: Pours a hazy, dark copper color with ochre highlights, a two to three finger, pillowy, wheat head, nearly a finger of long term retention, and broad rings of lacing.
S: Tart side of tangy with aromas caramel, cloves, cherry, and citrus.
T: Semisweet to sweet. Flavors of follow the nose with the introduction of the chili peppers, which I couldn't pick up in the nose. Solidly bitter, which is very much in balance with the rest of the flavor picture.
M: Medium bodied with robust effervescence. Impressively constructed.
O: Ommegang really gets this style and this is no exception.

i think i am mighty close to completing this series now, and have still never seen the show. i look forward to the beers though, and this one has aged pretty well, i think, but i have no clue what it tasted like when it was new, i just like it now. thanks to my buddy for breaking this out of his cellar to help me complete the series! its a uniquely malty red ale with some rye in the mash, then done with ancho peppers and quite liberally hopped. its brick red in color with a ton of carbonation and a frothy belgian looking tan airy head. its aroma is interesting, a bit sweet from the grain, still curiously fresh to me, light earthy peppery character and even faint smoke from the ancho, but no heat to me at all. i like the bready grain character in the taste, the minerals, the depth, its deep red but its never sweet. i get some herbal bitterness from the hops, but any more nuance from them has clearly faded in the cellar over the years. i like the bitterness though, it sets up the almost dusty dry pepper layer really well, which is also quite tame, i wonder if this was ever really spicy? it sure isnt now. i love the grain complexion on this, it seems perfectly suited to the smoked pepper, and the whole thing is wintery and robust while being lower alcohol for the series and dry for a red ale. the yeast is nice too, a light ester to it and a ton of life, this is effervescent and almost cream textured, awesome mouthfeel. overall a really fun and unique beer that has aged extremely well. its drinkable and layered, even without the hops doing much more than making this bitter, and this is one i highly recommend, even this old. very unique, very good! i have come to expect nothing less from ommegang, and the did not disappoint here!

Poured into a Game of Thrones glass from a 750ml bottle

A - A deep murky brown with some blood red, serious amounts of near light brown head and lots of sticky legs

S - sugar, yeasty, lots of soil and earth, fresh water, sweet and toasted grains/malts, nice spice note and more sugary goodness.

T - Lots of sweet grains/malts, nice tang from the chile, no booze note to speak of, earth that is full of life, Belgian/German yeast, slight earthy hops and more sugar.

M - medium minus body, well balanced, nice complexity, medium carbonation and medium acidity

D - I was expecting more acidity from the chile, but it is still very nice, on the light side for sure, but delicious and refreshing none-the-less. One of the better Amber/Red ales but definitely missing the mark on body, more of a drink all day and not get full amber/red and Meatball subs with fresh-cut fries pairs extremely well with this ale.

Final thoughts - I got these ales in a package with a glass for a silly low price but would love to try this truly aged, on cask or on tap at any point. The sub 7% ABV is a bummer, but still awesome.
