Poured from 12oz bottle into Chimay goblet.

L - Mahogany brown, finger of tan head that thins, but doesn't disappear.

S - Sweet malts, musty yeast notes, brown sugar, raisins, brown bread.

T - Dark roasted grain, pumpernickel bread, anise, peat and malt.

F - Creamy, slightly stinging carbonation. Has some definite weight, lingering on the tongue.

Really hits the right notes as a Belgian beer, does not taste American. A pleasant dubbel.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; no production information.
A: Pours a hazy, coppery orange color with strong effervescence and clearing leading to an enormous (> 2 inch), tan head. Good retention and modest lacing.
S: Spicy and peppery with aromas of molasses and mocha.
T: Tastes similar to nose with clove/coriander evident early. Complex with a mild sweetness up front, more molasses and raisin at the finish. Bitterness in the background throughout.
M: Medium bodied with excellent carbonation. Perhaps a bitterness to the aftertaste.
O: A well composed, flavorful, and enjoyable example of the Dubbel style. Wouldn't hesitate to have it again.

I think I'm rating the right beer here, the label says " ABBEY ALE DUBBEL., brewed the orange peel, grains of paradise, coriander, licorice root & anise". A powerful pop of the cork, a pretty chestnut brown body & a big light brown head. Smells sweet, brown sugar, fig, licorice. Taste is salty-sour (surprisingly), grain, alcohol, pepper & caramel . Oddly, it's pretty much the opposite of its aroma. Plenty of carbonation to tickle the tongue. Overall, I really like this beer.

Look is a reddish Cola, darker than an amber but lighter than a porter. Head is minor and lasing is minimal.

Smell mildly malty, slight smells of cherry and alchohol.

Taste is sweet malt, fruity esters with a bitter caramelly finish.

Get a Tulip. Pour and enjoy an outstanding Dubbel. The pour gives you a chestnut color with a two finger brownish head that dissipates slowly and leaves strong lacing. The nose is complex. I got brown sugar, caramel, herbs, and spices. The taste... oh the taste. I got raisins, fig, spices, and herbs with a dry finish. The feel that of strong carbonation and effervescence. Sip this one. Enjoy! Overall, a WC beer that every beer geek must try.

This is by far the Dubbel to judge all American-made Dubbel's against. The very best in balance, with dark fruits mixing well with spices, and finishing with a light, yeasty maltiness that puts the 24 karat gold finish on the whole package deal!

On draft at my local World of Beers. Poured a dark brown with hints of tan in the head. Smell was sweet with some fruit and spice notes. The taste followed the smell as was fruits (plums, figs and some cherries). Sweet on the tongue but with a dry finish. It was probably served a little too cool since as it warmed the flavors really came out. Even at near room temperature there was just a slight hint of alcoholic heat at the head but not enough to be concerning. Overall this is just a great beer.
