Witte is our version of the classic Belgian wit or "white" ale. Witte, which is actually Flemish for white, is brewed with malted and unmalted wheat, orange peel, and coriander - offering a refreshing style that showcases the Belgian talent for brewing full-flavored ales that are also light and balanced. It is pale straw in color, slightly hazy from the yeast, and topped with a huge white, fluffy head.

Witte is pleasantly light on the tongue, balanced between malt and wheat sweetness. Hops and spice with a subtle clove note backed by flavors of lemon and sweet orange give way to a dry, crisp, refreshing finish.

Light hazy yellow with big white head that didn't stay long but draped some lace on the glass all the way down. Wheat and yeast competeing for the lead in aroma, with orange peel and spices in a back up role. Bready taste with some tartness. Very dry and refreshing. Another great one from Ommegang!

From a can. Pours a hazy yellow with a very short lived tiny white head. Smells of citrus fruit, herbal, and earthy. The flavor is orange, citrus, herbal, "belgiany", earthy, and has a slight bite. Dry and clean. A little metalic on the finish for some reason. Medium-light bodied. Not as heavily carbonated as i expected but definitely above average for a beer.

From Beer Drop, best by January 21st 2024. 16 ounce can.

What a classy looking pour. Hazy dark yellow, light orange, beautiful long lasting head of foam, good lacing.

The smell is cloves, coriander, yeast, wheat, I reckon that the cloves are dominant.

The taste actually light cloves, banana coriander, hint of lemon, near zero bitterness.

Body is slightly on the thinner side, carbonation is fairly light.

Excellent.

Ive reviewed 2 beers in the last decade. Lots more ads here, but lets go

L. Belgian Witte - looks unfiltered, lots of lacing, head retention is strong. This poured from a 16oz can. Has been siting around a few months as I got it for the wife for some Thanksgiving party. Her loss my gain.

S: Good, maybe great. Standard smells. What I would like more of is the belgian yeasty or belgian candy smell. Not banana, but yeasty candy goodness. Its good though. Maybe what I would like to see is something which stands out. The aroma is a little too subtle and basic, nothing novel to bring it higher.

T: Its good. Has some abv as it comes in just over 5. Some phenols which I would find desirable. No esters which is what Im actually not looking for. Hops are strong in the sense they are weak, spot on the for the style.

F: I would like a little more bready thickness. Not like biscuit on the hops front, but more chewy. I realize not everyone is looking for this, but with belgians its what I want.

Overall this is a good beer. ABV is good for the style, nothing over the top. I wouldnt hesitate to have another, which I will. Is the best Witte in the world? I hope not ;). That said I am a big Ommegang fanboy and wouldnt hesitate to recommend this beer to anyone looking for a solid Witte.

That awful cloying Belgian taste. Not much to it in terms of flavor, beyond some spice and apricot maybe. Not my style.

Sampling a cold 12 oz stubbie bottle poured into my weiss glass. Picked up at local bottle shop, date stamp 1/14/2021.
The beer pours a bright gold color with a bleached white fluffy head of 3.5 cm. Nice robust head on this brew. Sits in the glass with just a little haze.
Aroma is some clove and lemon with a little orange too to round out citrus notes. No real hop presence.
First sip reveals a light crisp body with fine tingly carbonation. body is a little thin but seems appropriate for the style.
Flavor is some bready yeast and lemon again. Moves to sweeter orange and finishes spicy with cloves and maybe black pepper. Pretty dry palate on the finish.
A nice beer for a hot day like today. From a great brewery that I simply dont purchase enough anymore.
