Pours an outstanding pale hazy gold. Excellent head and lacing. This beer almost shimmers. It is a beautiful brew.

Aromas of green apple, pear, lemon, oak, and grass/hay. Just a touch of funk/yeast. Hints of leather and spice.

The flavor is winey-goodness. Tart apple, pear and lemon follow the nose to the tongue. Plum and apricot too. Hints of yeast and herb.

The mouthfeel is outstanding. Light, dry, and crisp. Like a dry white wine.

Overall, a fine tart (but not overly so) pale belgian. Highly recommended.

Hot damn this is a good one. And I swear, every time your main man pops a Belgian freshy, he thinks to himself, “I need to drink more Belgians!” But Raul digresses!

Just hot, just tart, just fresh! Now, don’t get Raul twisted, it’s not, ‘hot,’ it’s like Beyoncé fresh out da bubble bath, ‘hot.’ I’m talking on fire!!! As we move on, we get to the beautiful tartness. Kind of like my baby mama leaving a chocolate on my pillow after she leave for trabajo. Yeah girl, that’s cute, I like dat. And as far as it being fresh, it just is cuz Raul says so...

Think of yourself in Belgium. You don’t even need to know the name of a city, but you are there, in the middle of it, in the thunderstorm. And all of a sudden Mrs. Brussels grabs your hand and whispers in your ear, “Want to go for a ride?” And you know you do.

Pours slightly hazy golden with a generous size white head that has excellent retention.
Strong, tart flavor with good balance allowing some nice toasted grain flavors.
Medium-light body with medium+ carbonation.

Overall: Excellent version of the style.

330 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, best before 1/2019. Pours slightly hazy pale golden/yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of tart lemon, lime, plum, cherry, peach, apricot, red apple, pear, green grape, white wine, hay, straw, herbal, grass, wheat, cracker, light pepper/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of tart lemon, lime, plum, cherry, peach, apricot, red apple, pear, green grape, white wine, hay, straw, herbal, grass, wheat, cracker, light pepper/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light yeast spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately grainy/acidic, and slightly tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.9%. Overall this is a very nice sour blonde ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced tart/sour/lactic finish. Very unique profile for a sour ale. Massive amounts of pome/stone fruits with mild funk; and nice levels of tart/sour character in balance with pale malts. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of white head that settles into a thin creamy patch.

Smell: A funky and fruity Belgian style Sour with a scent of spices and sour fruit. Belgian yeast with a scent of pepper, clove, and farmhouse funk. Good scent of brett lacto funk. Fruit scent of green apple, lemon, pear, orange, and banana. Malt hints of wheat, grains, and cracker. Some candied sugar sweetness. Hints of floral hops. A very nice aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a funky and fruity Belgian style taste with notes of fruit and spices. Belgian yeast with notes of pepper, clove, and farmhouse funk. Funky and sour notes of brett lacto yeast. Fruit notes of banana, green apple, lemon zest, pear, and orange. Malt notes of wheat, grains, and cracker. Sweet taste of candied sugar. Also some notes of earthy hops. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Creamy, spicy, and juicy.

Overall: A very nice sour spin on a Belgian Pale Ale. Good mix of spice, funk, and fruit notes.

330 ml bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours a pale golden with a slight haze, creamy head, slight lacing, looks nice.

A: Barnyard, hay, funk, sour, tart, wheat, slight lemon, crackers, not very aromatic but lots going on, very nice.

T: Tart, slightly sour, green apple, lemon peel, grassy notes in the finish along with some crackers and a tinge of honey, it's very balanced and easy to drink.

M: Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation, smooth mouthfeel, very dry finish.

O: Very enjoyable, not too tart, has a nice balance of citrus, wet hay, and malts, very drinkable. This is a beer I would reach for again.

I got this at Randall's Manchester in the "Cheap Beer" cart for $2; I bought it because I remember liking another Belgian Pale Ale I had tried this past winter.

I was VERY impressed with this beer, especially because it is a sour (Not a big fan). Great flavor, very well balanced. These beers are a special treat (especially at $12.25 a 4-pack) to me; I remember feeling like I was drinking some high quality wine or something. This may be the sour beer that makes me a convert.

Hazy amber with modest white head, first bottle had almost no head, second was prettier. Aroma: very pretty, apple, lemon blossom , pear. Taste: mildly tart. Flavor: delicious, tart apples, pear, lemon, bread, mild funk & alcohol. Feel: crisp & refreshing, like biting in to a tart green apple, plenty of carbonation & alcohol to occupy the tongue. Pale Sour is very close to a cider, I liked it a lot more than I expected.

Served in a flute glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Super trabspfent cold color with medium bubbles and a white head rising one fingers le gth off the body.

Smell: fruit closer to spoiled green grapes with hints of lemongrass.

Taste: sour feel with doses of lemon juice and white wine feel. Lightly malty with a lemon zest feel to go along.

Mouth: Sticky with a semi full body.

Overall: Good brew. Very refreshing on this hot summer afternoon. Salud.

330 ml bottle served cold into a Gouden Carolus chalice. LCBO purchase for around $4 CDN.

Appearance - Mostly clear bright golden brew with lots of bubbles and a small half finger of white head that fizzles away immediately.

Smell - Sour with some sweetness from low hanging berries maybe gooseberries or elderberries. White wine is featured prominently with some apple skins and such. Musty as well although in the good way that top notch Belgian brews seem to be.

Taste - Quite tart, berries, white wine and apples lead the way with a subtle peach sweetness at the end. Not overwhelmingly tart of course, very restrained and balanced as most Ommegang products tend to be.

Mouthfeel- lIght and hiding the booze very well, dry finish and carbonation is less expressive than expected although works well. A minor champagne like finish here too.

Overall - Really solid wild ale, maybe not quite work the price in these locals, but this brew did nothing to diminish Ommegang in my eyes. Well worth a shot.

This just might be my favorite beer of 2017. I can see buying this one multiple times. I've had it on tap and bottles and both are very good.
What a perfect balance of tart fruit, soft funk and just a bit of sweet fruit. Taste is a little better than aroma but both are very nice. Moderate to a little lighter in feel and well carbonated, which in this case I don't mind. Nice size at 6.9% with hints of the alcohol but not quite warm in the gut.
It is pale with a yellow/gold and slightly cloudy with a white cap.
So pleasing and satisfying. I really like this beer.

From a bottle, this one is mostly clear, golden, with a tall white head. The aroma is amazing...funky sour, pungent and musty...interesting with grain and a little herbs underneath. Wow. The taste is equally interesting....bitter, balanced, sour and funky. Hay and grain. The body is medium-full and the finish is lasting and tart. This is a terrific beer.

Notes via stream of consciousness: Wow, it pours a pretty nice sized bright white head and keeps it, you don't usually find that in sour beers. The body is a slightly hazy gold. The aroma is tart with mineral and lemon over a light malt base. The flavor delivers more malt though, and it's sweetish. Basic golden malt, not quite grainy, perhaps a little cereal-like. The beer is not that sour either. It's tart but not biting. More lemon appears, and there's some grassiness as well. Some more mineral, but limited. It's nice but I was hoping for a little more complexity. Balanced though, very easy to drink. I could see having this at lunch. What's the strength on it? 6.9%, ahhhh, but it's a small bottle. Medium-light in body with a gently crisp, fine-bubbled carbonation. Impressive head retention and lacing. I could certainly go for more of these, but not at the price it's at, I'd put that towards something a little more funky and fruity.

11.2 oz bottle, Best before dating (10 2019) printed on the label.

Pour light near golden and lightly hazed, lasting off white cap leaves some thicker strands and webs of lace all up and down the glass.

On the nose I get some sweet fruit and tart fruit notes.

Tasty Belgian style ale, from one of the my favorite American brewers of these kind of brews....sweet n fruity, tart and sour, complex and tasty....easy drinking, kind of like an entry level sour beer...well worth a try

Nearly clear, light haze. Pale yellow, nearly straw. Lasting, but small, head. Several spots for lace.

Mildly tart with a bit of a meaty smell. Lightly sweet.

This is nicely tart but not overly sour. The base malt is brief but fairly strong. The finish is less sweet and more tart, but I get a good, balanced aftertaste. The body is rich with a lower carbonation. The overall effect is very pleasant--flavorful and subtly intriguing.

I am delving into my Brewery Ommegang backlog this evening, having scored a bottle of Fleur de Houblon while meeting an old friend at Dominion Pizza this afternoon.

From the bottle: "Delightfully tart and refreshing, with a pale golden hue and a white head. Gently malty, with balanced tartness and sweetness. Visit us for daily tours & tastings"; "Part of the Duvel Family of Fine Ales"; "Pour slowly so as not to disturb the yeast sediment, but with enough vigor to create a luxurious head and release the rich bouquet."; ""Where Heaven met Earth and stayed a while."; "We believe that balance is a heavenly quality in beer. Our elegantly balanced sour ale is created in collaboration with Brouwerij Liefmans, where they have brewed and blended extraordinary sour beers since the 1600's. Our fresh exploration is beautifully made, carefully blended, and precisely balanced. Tart, complex, and with a touch of sweetness, our Pale Sour Ale offers your palate the opportunity to fine-tune its appreciation of sour ales."

Oooh, an opportunity, eh? Sheesh! Arrogant, much? Hey, I'll be the first to admit that such beers are not my first choice, but I do know the ones that I like without being given this opportunity.

I Pop!ped the cap & once again, I was a bit confounded by their seemingly contradictory directions. There was a goodly amount of lees visible on the punt even before I began my standard gentle pour. I was hoping that it might act like the previous Fleur de Houblon & form a head on its own, but to no avail. I also noticed that the yeast cake let go 3/4 of the way into my pour & so I immediately stopped to retain the clarity. Color was a gorgeous Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, prompting The Gelt Gang to come rushing in from my living room where they were watching the U.S.A./O.A.R. Men's hockey game on my telly. A vigorous in-glass swirl, which is my answer to their directions, raised a brief finger of foamy, fizzy, bone-white head that quickly faded to wisps. Nose had a white wine-like vinousness, sour grapes, green apples, slight funk, all adding up to a curiosity for me. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but I was hoping for more, especially with the initial carbonated spritziness. The taste was very evocative of a dry white wine, more towards tart than outright sour, and quite grape-y, at least initially. As I allowed it to swirl around on my tongue, I began to get an apple cider vinegary flavor also. Nose of it was unpleasant, but it really was not my thing. Finish was bone dry, proof that the yeast that formed those lees had done their job well. It made me very curious to try that final pour of the now-swirled & decanted lees. It was muddy, as you might imagine, but I adhere to the "Waste not, want not" philosophy in life. The funkiness was much more pronounced on the nose. The tartness was just a little more pronounced, but not much unchanged. Finish was still quite dry. I recommend a gentle decanting and then a final pour after the first pour has been drank.

APP- Dull brass with clarity just shy of brilliant with thin but persistent bright white head with fine lace. Effervescent, some floaties despite careful pour and a week at least of settling in the fridge.

Aroma - medium high sweet pilsner malt , really nice big floral hop aroma with an herbal element, some low tones of clover, minor lemon juice aroma, faint notes of ripe mango, melon rind. No overt sulfur or D.


Flavor - low malt sweetness, balanced mostly by a high but not especially aggressive acidity. Some strawberry / rhubarb fruitiness, Herbal hop character is barely discernable and no bitterness in the finish really. Has a distinct "sweet tart" flavor that is often indicative of food grade lactic acid being added to the beer. That really about all that's going on here, not very complex. Slight rubberband note in aftertaste.


Mouthfeel - lactic acidity retains soft creamy character, medium-light bodied with high carbonation.

Overall - Theis beer has no real flaws to speak of and even manages to bring a high level of lactic acid without being sharp or unpleasant, but its just kind of a bore. Not much complexity or depth of character. Needs more Pale, less Sour. Wheres the hops? I probably won't finish this, but if I was going to I'm sure I'd find it to be a chore halfway through the glass and it would probably upset my stomach. Love Ommegang but I had high expectations for a beer like this from them and this, while not bad, just doesn't live up to expectations.
