Poured 12oz bottle into tulip. It's a dark brown color with a slight reddish hue and a two finger beige head that slowly settles to a nice thin but creamy 2 finger head while leaving spots of lacing on my glass. A wonderful aroma of toffee and caramel, followed by dark fruit, light bourbon and hint of vanilla. Flavor is caramel, toffee, baked apple, brown sugar, faint dark cherry and prunes with a dry walnut-like finish. There is a nice warming sensation and a lightly sweet finish. This is an exceptional Dubble and the Bourbon to Brandy barrels were a fantastic way to finish it off.

Pours murky brown with a small residual head.

Aroma is of Belgian spice, dark fruits, cherry, bourbon, and vanilla.

Taste, while a little thin, has a great complexity of flavor. Bourbon character is ample upfront, but the brandy barrel carries through the finish. More Belgian spice, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Good beer!

Overall, great beer! A little thin, but would easily buy again. I see this pairing well with a fatty pate with dried fruit compote. It gets a 92.5/100

Pours a minimal 1+ finger tan head that dissipates fairly rapidly, though not completely, managing to leave light lacing for the duration. Color is deep cherry gold, brown copper. Earthy nose. Bourbon immediately noticeable upon tasting -- a layered, moderately boozy taste on top of a recognizable dubbel, rendering it somewhat quad like, yet unique. Brandy? I suppose. The mouthfeel is relatively thin and lacks somewhat in effervescence. That's the only shortcoming here, and it's perhaps unavoidable given the barrel aging. Unfortunately, it's priced the same as the top notch Belgian imports -- $20 for a four-pack. Is it in the same class? It's very close, but given that it's a domestic, it's overpriced. Still, an outstanding and, I'll say it again, unique ale.

This is an artful, nuanced blend. The raisins and floral yeast are balanced and in harmony with oak-y tobacco, smokey vanilla, and boozy apples. The body is light and airy and the elevated abv is barely discernible. I only bought a single, time to head back for a couple of packs at least.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark orange brown with a thin, light khaki head that has good persistence and surprisingly nice lacing, considering its light nature. Aroma of caramel malt, raisins, dates, clear brandy and bourbon notes, oaky vanilla, nice. Flavor follows, with caramel malt, raisins, dark fruit and nice influence from both the brandy and bourbon, lots of vanilla. Medium bodied with light to medium creaminess and nice mouth feel. This really turned out to be pretty much exactly what I'd expect from (and hope for) and dual barrel aged dubbel. Both barrels contribute clear flavors, leaning to the brandy more than bourbon, which I think is a good choice for this style. The underlying dubbel is nice, as expected from Ommegang, but is just enough to support the barrel notes. Lots of oak origin vanilla; in a blind taste, I'd guess that vanilla was added, but it melds well with the brandy. Well done and flavorful.

Pours so dark brown that it looks black with a 2 finger foamy tan head that was packed with bubbles of all sizes, dissipating slowly while making a crackling sound and leaving minimal spotty lacing.

Smells of caramel, toffee, dark fruit like plum, black cherry and rotting pear, sheet metal, minerals, vanilla, coriander, oaky notes, brandy, wheat bread, floral notes and light peppery spices. Quite complex, it's mostly the base beer Abbey Ale but the barrel influences add nice complexities.

Tastes of dark fruit like plum, black cherry and rotting pear, sheet metal, minerals, vanilla, coriander, spices like cumin, clove and/or cinnamon, tea leaf, earthy notes, caramel, toffee, oaky notes, brandy, honey, wheat bread, mild booze, a mild nuttiness, floral notes and light peppery spices. No sign of the bourbon barrels except for the vanilla notes, which for me was disappointing. The malty complexities hide the 9.9% ABV listed on the bottle very well.

L - Opaque brown with a mahogany center with a very thin tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves behind minimal lacing.
S - Notes of bready yeast and malt along with notes of sweet brandy and bourbon as well as dark fruits. The smell is pretty faint though.
T - Pretty complex: bready yeast notes up front followed behind by dark fruit, cherries, figs, caramel, spices, and notes of the sweet brandy as well as vanilla notes from the bourbon all tied together with a malty backbone.
F - Medium bodied with a light to medium amount of carbonation - I would prefer a fuller mouthfeel for the style.
O - This is a really great dubbel from Ommegang and the brandy and bourbon work very well complementing the dubbel style, that said, I prefer their standard abbey ale dubbel to this as well as many other standard dubbels to this. However, on it's on this is a great beer that's well worth a try and definitely is a nice fresh take on a Belgian dubbel.

Opaque purple/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small khaki head; thick lace.

Oak, dark cherry & faint vanilla notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Oak, carmel & raspberry flavors up front; mild booze heat notes on the finish.

Oak-y & interesting; I'd have another.

"Double your pleasure, double your fun" seems like a slogan better meant for this beer than some cheesy 1980's bubblegum ad. But as the notion of "double" permeates the Ommegang brewery, a double oak treatment of both brandy and bourbon barrels stacked on top of a formidable Belgian styled dubbel ale seems like a challenge just waiting to happen.

Russet brown and with a tawny bronze haze, the firmly capped Double Barrel Dubbel strikes the nose with brandy and bourbon force. The boozy aromatics are strong while wrapped in a soothing blend of stone fruit and caramelized malts. Medium sweet on the front of the tongue, a steely caramel flavor brings about suggestions of pecan, light cocoa, light coffee and brown sugar.

The middle palate shows a quick recession of sweetness where the remnants of toast, peanut skins, pepper and cola-like flavors to persist. Mild coffee and cocoa continue to roll into the barrel spices of brandy, bourbon, red wine, strong peppercorn, cinnamon and a bold tannic property. Savory with notions of port, sherry and madeira keep the spices supported in a sweet, spicy and savory late palate.

Medium full on the tongue, the beer's hefty set of flavors have the mind trending richer in taste and texture, but the barrel spices, booze and vinous tartness of the underlying ale all play a more moderate tone. A long linger of savory, sweet and spicy complexities have the beer rewarding the tastebuds like richer, fuller ale.
