Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Ommegang Adoration, brewed in the authentic style of Belgian winter, or noel beer, is dark, malty and assertively spiced.

Adoration is best sipped before a roaring fire. It would also be a tasty accompaniment to dark roasts and wild game. Even at 10% abv, the beer is well balanced and not at all hot or fiery. The dark malts give it lush, malty flavors, including coriander, orange peel, mace, cardamom and grains of paradise. Hopping is modest, as befits such a beer.

A unexpected favorite beer of the night. A beautiful rich mahogany color with a soft white head. The smell is all burnt sugars, spices and an enticing booziness that is not too strong. The taste follows the nose but as it warms it takes on the character of candy canes that have a more herbal than just peppermint flavor - which might sound a little odd but was really delightful. Some banana and spicy notes given off from the yeast I suppose. Large bouquet of earthy herbal notes in the flavor. Very easy to drink and hard to find the alcohol in there - it was nice and thick but with tighter bubbles that helped it not be cloying. Maybe my new favorite from ommegang - really great stuff.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass.

A: gorgeous hazy amber/brown, with a light colored head

S: the nose does not overwhelm, but it is definitely present

T: The taste is complex and varies as you swallow

M: The feel is like a presence in your mouth. It is enjoyable.

As a devout fan of every Ommegang beer, this one takes the crown!
A beautiful mahogany, auburn red color with a decent head.
The combination of spices, fruit, malts, low hops, and high ABV make this a definite winter warmer and in my opinion one of the best beers on the market.

Thank you Ommegang!!!

This was one that I didn't know what was coming and when the first sip hit, I said, oh wow. It is a huge dark fruity Belgian. Why I want ready, I don't know. This is a brewery well known for this kind of thing.

It comes out deep dark red, with fine bubbles. The aroma is big and fruity. The taste is bigger and fruitier. It's Ommegang doing Belgian better than the Belgians, which so many of theirs seem to do.

This is a great one I highly recommend.

The beer comes in hazy dark mahogany reddish brown.

Tons of spices in this and comes through with the aroma. The aroma has Belgian bready yeast, tons of juicy dark dried fruits of plums, figs, raisins. Very sweet smelling with malt sweetness.

The flavor follows with lots of spice. Then it goes onto huge sweet fruits, plum, figs, dried black cherries, black pepper, coriander.

There is lots of carbonation that is traditional to the style.

This is one of Ommegang's best beers. Better than their Three Philosphers and actually extremely close to the traditional Belgian quads. I imagine that this beer could stand out with the best of them.

From a 12 oz bottle to a snifter.

Bottle date Sept 2013

A: pours a lovely chestnut brown with an immense head that seems like it lasts forever. Once it finally does break it leaves some interesting lacing and a fair amount of foam as a cap.

S: dark fruits, yeasts, caramel, some hints of molasses and a maltiness.

T: much like the nose, dark fruits and caramel are up front as spices and yeast follow.

M: full bodied with higher carbonation. The booze does come through a touch but not enough to detract from the other aspects.

O: Adoration is a nice Winter time BSDA that I quite enjoyed. I think it will only benefit from age, but even in this young state it was full of flavor and character. As a fan of Belgian styles I must give hats off to Ommegang.
