Review is for barrel-aged release in 2016. Excellent seasonal with full notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste ends with full warmth of 12.3% ABV from bourbon barrel aging. Gather round the fire and enjoy.

this is exactly the kind of beer i want to be drinking this time of year! the barrels add a wonderful dimension to an already exceptional beer in adoration, a hearty malty belgian wintery brew with a moderate sweetness, warming toasted profile, and rich spicy belgian yeast. i get more whiskey than wood in the nose, but a better balance in the flavor, light vanilla going nice with the dark fruity notes in here, plums and prunes and dark berry, its rich and bready, caramelized and just a bit oxidized, not sure how old this is, but its drinking sort of old barleywine-esque on the malts, which i think is flattering to it, especially with the yeasts. black tea or even cardamom in the finish with the booze. now all i need is a snowstorm, a wood burning fireplace, and an auxiliary liver! this is the kind of beer i think ommegang does best, and the relative subtleness of the barrel treatment is nice, it accents the beer without overtaking it, and adds complexity to an already very layered and interesting beer. this is good enough to have come from belgium...

This one pours a pretty dark brown, with a small head, and no lacing.

This one smells like rich dark caramel, toffee, slight fruitiness, bourbon, vanilla, oak, and slight breadiness.

This basically feels like a barrel aged barleywine, and a good one at that. There's tons of rich creamy caramel, nice sweet bourbon, and a good amount of oaky vanilla. It doesn't feel very "Belgian" anymore, but that's koz

This is medium bodied, and really creamy, with a softly carbonated feel.

This is really quite good.

A - Dark amber burgundy color with a thin caramel colored lacing ring, light and steady carbonation.

S - Bourbon, light sweet oak, toasted caramel, some alcohol effervescence.

T - Dark fruit, bourbon, toasted caramel roast, cherries, oakiness, some minimal alcohol effervescence.

M - Full bodied, velvety but with a subtle alcohol sharpness and dry on the finish.

O - This is my first barrel aged offering from Ommegang and does not disappoint.

10%? Not at all - well balanced strong ale with a sweet, but not cloying vanilla toffee profile.

On tap at Rattle-N-Hum in NYC. Pours cloudy chestnut brown color with a 1 finger tan head that faded and left minimal lacing. Smells of toffee, caramel, bourbon, red wine, brown sugar, oak barrels, butterscotch, candied sugar and fruity candy. Very sweet smelling overall it's mellow and boozy at the same time with a lot of complexities as it gets warmer. Tastes of dark fruit like cherry, dates, chocolate dipped strawberries, red wine like a merlot, toffee, caramel, bourbon, and then a flavorful mix like the nose with brown sugar, oak/barrels, butterscotch, candied sugar, citrus hop spices, cinnamon, buttered wheat bread toast and fruity candy. Wow, this was smooth for the 10% ABV listed, and it got so much better as it warmed. Smooth and buttery, this slid down sweet but not cloyingly sweet and made for a great slow sipper.

From 01/30/14 notes. Had an 8 oz. pour of this on tap at Blind Tiger. Not sure if the vintage but assuming they re-brewed this recently.

a - Pours a deep, reddish brown color with one inch of light tan head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of coconut, sweet dark fruits, oak, bourbon, caramel malts, and toasted malts. Nice nose, lots of coconut from the barrel. Bourbon is somewhat light.

t - Tastes of bourbon, sweet dark fruits, caramel malts, coconut, oak, toasted malts, chocolate, toasted malts, and molasses. Taste has more bourbon, caramel, and chocolate than the nose; a step up for me.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink and no heat to it at all.

o - Overall I liked this one quite a bit; I liked it better as it warmed up and the more I drank
it. I also liked it a little better than the base beer. No heat but nice bourbon in the taste, and coconut throughout. Definitely worth checking out if you see it, would like to have it again.
