2020 Notes:

Savor the season of sharing. Brewed with roasted specialty malts and a robust blend of spices, then aged in bourbon barrels for at least six months, Bourbon Barrel Adoration celebrates the Belgian tradition of spiced Noël ales.

This beer pours a deep mahogany with a dense tan head. Aromas of coconut and chocolate are followed by subtle notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice, with hints of oak and bourbon. Barrel aging tames the assertive spicing and leads to delightful drinkability.

Previous Notes:
This Adoration winter strong ale was aged eight months at Ommegang. It went into Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels in September 2009 and was bottled in April 2010. Only 200 bottles were created for this original run.

Enjoy all the flavor, aroma and spiciness of Adoration, overlaid with notes of oak and bourbon, as well as a hint of vanilla.

Buffalo Trace Distillery is located in Frankfort, Kentucky - the very heart of bourbon country. The distillery has been operating since 1787.

Review is for barrel-aged release in 2016. Excellent seasonal with full notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste ends with full warmth of 12.3% ABV from bourbon barrel aging. Gather round the fire and enjoy.

Poured from draft into a snifter. Opaque brown color with a small head and thin curtain lacing. Warm, boozy warm spice smell and taste. Bourbon is evident and pleasant. I would like it a bit fuller feel. This is a very nice holiday beer. Happy to find it on tap.

From notes, I didn't have it recently

Look: brown-red maybe purple with an off-white fluffy head

Aroma: It has a nice aroma of bourbon, caramel and holiday spices.

Flavor: It taste like caramel, coconut, bourbon and perhaps nutmeg. It has a fairly mild flavor for this kind of beer and ABV level

Body/Overall: medium body but I expected full/heavy body

Picked up a single from the Kings Beer & Wine cooler on 11-17-20 for $4.99. Bottled 09-17-20; best by 09/17/23; consumed 3/9/21.

Beer poured a burgundy brown with an okay off white head with the original pour.

Nose has notes of dark fruity esters, some vanilla, and some bourbon.

Taste is well done with the light but substantial malt base integrated with belgian sugars and the wonderful strong dark yeast strain providing the notes of fermented grapes and currants. Barreling provides a sweet light touch of vanilla and a touch of booze to balance the sweetness nicely.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall a well done barrel aging going well with a good base beer. Nice beer at a nice price!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a hazy brownish orange with a quarter finger khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, bourbon, oaky vanilla and raisins, quite boozy. Flavor follows with caramel malt, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, figs, raisins and Belgian yeast fruitinesss. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. It's been a while since I've had an Ommegang brew, which is unfortunate, because I'm a big fan. This is just what I'd expect from a barrel aged Belgian from them. Great Belgian character and lots of caramel and dried fruit. Vanilla is quite forward and remarkable if its from the barrel oak. Good bourbon and integration of the barrel with the base Belgian ale. This would have been a great choice for Christmas eve, but I'm kinda glad it wasn't because I can drink it now. Bourbony, full of caramel and flavorful.
