Ommegang Seduction is lovingly brewed with six dark malts. Chocolatier Callebut provides the chocolate, while Liefmans brings the cherries. This international romance is consummated with a full body, alluring aromas and flavors of Belgian chocolate, and tart cherries. Seduction is an ale to be lovingly embraced.

Beautiful, rich and smooth, roasty and malty throughout, Seduction offers balanced chocolate-cherry notes, a bit of caramel sweetness, and a long, slow finish. Seduction is welcoming and warm-hearted, gently hopped and harbors no bitterness, leaving only a lingering glow.

Appearance: Deep mahogany in color, with a moderate, quite dense light tan head. The retention is superb. Before a strong light clear, reddish brown highlights are revealed. A thick, all but unbroken sheet of lacing adorns the glass wall.

Aroma: Deep and malty aroma of dark bread, semisweet chocolate, caramel, cherries, raisins, plums, vinous alcohol, slight black licorice and wood.

Taste: Upon tasting, the tart cherries are most notable and trace the arc of the taste. Following on are malts that recall dark bread and burnt caramel. Midway through the taste, bitter cocoa presents. Late in the taste, notes of wood and earth are notable. Finishes with a lingering mild earthy hops note, the ever present sour cherries, and bitter cocoa.

Mouth feel: Smooth, a little thin, with sparse and gentle carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Pleasant and drinkable, a nice celebratory beer that seems to have cellared quite well.

Presentation: Packaged in a 750 ml Belgian brown glass bomber with a cork and cage closure, served in an Ommegang chalice. I was unable to discern any date information on this bottle.

L - Deep, opaque black with a large tan head that sticks around for some time and leaves behind a decent amount of lacing. A really nice looking porter.
S - Notes of chocolate and dark, roasted malts along with a hint of sweet cherries - overall the smell is pretty faint though.
T - Follows the nose with semi-sweet chocolate up front and throughout intermixed with the dark, roasted malts with a slight hint of sweet, tart cherries on the back end along with slight notes of bready yeast.
F - Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Soft - overall a nice feel but could maybe be a little heavier on the body.
O - A really nice porter - not overly complex, but unique given some of the belgian yeast and sugar characteristics as well as the addition of the tart cherries makes this a nice, enjoyable brew.

Review #500!!

A- This comes in a very heavy glass bottle with a cork and cap system in place....very masculine! The beer is heavily dark in color....super brown and almost black to be exact. The head is thick and dense at first before settling into a generous layer over the brew....it is velvety smooth looking! Lacing is superb as thick layers of foam coat the side of my glass and becomes very sticky as it attempts to fight gravity...artistic looking for sure. What a nice looking Ale!

S- Just what it says it is....dark chocolate blended with wild tart cherries....it is very much like rich black forest cake in smell! Additional hints of licorice, dark fresh cocoa, very toasty malt and even a little funk....almost turning rummy! Super nice and not overly complex, but what is on the nose is done well!

T- The flavors follow the aromas rather closely, but more in reverse order...sweet and sour cherries is what I taste right away, followed by semi sweet chocolate, licorice tones, dark fruits, slight dark roast coffee, coconut infused cocoa, creamy yeast and some Belgian funk. Delicious and well balanced between sweet and sour!

M/O- Medium/full bodied, velvety smooth carbonation and with lots of flavor. This is a well rounded brew that is meant for aging and it is easily drinkable...my bottle was brewed Dec 2011....probably right where it is at its best in my opinion. I hope this one comes out again sometime and well worth the wait!
