Notes / Commercial Description:
Duvel Rustica Golden Ale is our long-anticipated collaboration with Duvel. It's our first Belgian-style Golden Ale, a elegant ale noted for using simple ingredients to create complex flavors and aromas. We worked closely with Duvel on the recipe and processes, yet added our own signature notes. This Duvel collaboration created a fine ale, one with all the depth and breadth of Duvel's classic Belgian Golden Ale, along with rustic notes, including fruity esters from our yeast.

In keeping with our rustic farmstead roots, Rustica pours a golden hue, the aroma and flavor mixes maltiness and citrus from hops while the yeast produces notable fruitiness. The body is lean and rounded, while the finish offers dry warmth & firm hop bitterness.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #71 (December 2012):

Could be one of the most interesting and even complex beers we have had this year. This is a thinking person’s brew, for the true beer geek and will want to decipher every sip. One thing this ale is crying for is to be paired with some stinky cheese. Morbier comes to mind with some marmalade on the side.

02/23/13 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. After a logistical mix up, I'm finally in front of a glass of his fine, fine brew. A long time fan of both Ommegang & Duval brands this collaboration doesn't disappoint. Bready aromas give way to slight bite that could be alcohol & lemon or vice-verse. It is so subtle it's hard to tell. Another masterful brew but if you don't appreciate a dry finish this might not be for you. Me? I'm a fan.

Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. The beer is hazy gold color with bleached white minimal head after even a fairly aggressive pour.
Aroma is mild with bready yeast, some sweet malt and some spicy and earthy hops.
First sip reveals an average to light body with fine rolling carbonation.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some caramel malt and a little musty funk mixed in for fun.
The hops give the same earthy and spicy notes as he nose advertised, I dont get any booze which is nice since it is a bigger beer.

Very easy to drink and worth trying as it is interesting and fairly complex without being messy.
