Poured from a bottle into a wine glass that approximated the glass shape on the label.

A: pretty golden yellow. Not much carbonation. Nice thick, off white, creamy head that left some lace.

S: nice citrusy hop aroma. I think I get some orange/spice in the back ground.

T: typical Belgian style. Some fruit but not banana. Light malty sweetness. Some hop spice but not overpowering.

M: thin, dies quickly for me.

O: tasty but not what I expected. I'd like some more body and hops bitterness.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

And I thought Mickey Finn's had a monopoly on the "Gouden-" names... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear brass topped by a couple of fingers of steadfast white foam. The nose comprises lightly-soapy lemon rind, flowers, and very dry wheat. It's refreshing, but decidedly light and ephemeral. The taste brings in more of the same, with a stronger lemon presence and a bit of grass tossed in for good measure. The body straddles the line between hefty light and light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a decent enough BPA, but one severely lacking in any Belgian character. It's still pretty good, but too light and ordinary (for lack of a better word) to be in any way memorable.

Appearance: Nice golden color, good white head, leaves good lacing

Smell: Citrus and herby hops, classic Ommegang yeast profile, some fruit

Taste: Strong citrus hops, decent hop bitterness, finishing with that classic Ommegang yeast.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, crisp carbonation

Overall: Not the most impressed with this, when compared to other Ommegang offerings. If you want something hoppy from Ommegang, the BPA is better.

A – Pours a beautiful golden color with a fluffy eggshell white head. Translucent, transparent with great carbonation coming from the bottom.

S – Orange and lemon with some Belgian yeast smell, and a slight malt smell in there. Tiny bit of grass and pine. I think the lemon zest, Belgian and malt aromas belong to the Belgian side, and orange and tiny grass and pine come from the hops.

T – Taste follows smell, except less Belgiany and not quite as strong.

M – Pretty light and slightly effervescent. Dry finish. A tiny bit cozy but then distant and a little thin.

D – Refreshing but the flavor wasn’t as strong and lasting as I’d like. I need to let it warm.

Let it warm 10 minutes.
S – A more balanced and mixed (less distinct for each smell) aroma. Malt and grass balanced with some lemon.
T – Follows smell again, but with a bit of Belgian taste. Not strong though. Ends on a lemony-grass note. There are subtleties here that are nice, but it’s a little muddled with a flat finish. I notice some pepper now.
M – Light to medium body, cozier, and much less effervescent. Not nearly as dry.
D – I would say the taste strengthened but muddled a little. The beer is to be served at 40°F so my initial comments are supposedly Ommegang’s intentions.
