Fleur De Houblon Summer AleFleur De Houblon Summer Ale
Notes: Nothing is more evocative of summer than the beautiful aroma of flowers, and the favored flowers of brewers are hops. Our brand new summer ale, Fleur de Houblon (Hop Flowers), is brewed to bring the many elements of summer into a refreshing and easy-to-drink Belgian-style ale.

Fleur de Houblon is a rich gold color with distinct floral hops in the aroma that follow through in the taste. Whole-cone Bravo hops are used to impart their earthy, fruity, and floral aromas and flavors. The body and flavor are clean and dry, with pleasing complexity and spicy notes from both primary and secondary fermentation with our unique Ommegang house yeast.

I have reached the conclusion that there is nothing that Ommegang Brewery does wrong. No matter how many beers of theirs I try they are all delicious and for that reason they have become one of my favorite breweries. I am a little impartial as I love Belgium style ales, but this one is hoppy, citrusy, and just plain delicious.

Fleur De Houblon has a head like a blossoming lotus that covers the glass like climbing hydrangea. It is pristine white and solid enough to pass as spun cotton. The liquid embalmed within it is no less a sight to see; beaming golden radiance and a dizzying spectacle of bubbles make this look incredibly striking.

Spicy, aromatic yeast is every bit part and parcel with Belgian ales as the beehive of foam. Though brewed in the United States with the intent of showcasing American hops (Bravo) this bouquet is still dominated by yeasty notes of cracked pepper, fresh bread, and pantry spices. There is certainly an earthy, floral element but it's merely a compliment to the inherent dried herb qualities.

And all of this is fine by me. The palate does the same thing: it offers a glimpse of raw whole leaf hops and then has it whisked away by savory flavours of chamomile, flowers, nutmeg, allspice and a wholesome, comforting flavour of warm homemade bread. Despite that yeast steals the show, there is a trace of crude bitterness on the finish. Maybe Ommegang does have an American side after all?!

Maybe. But the fact they're able to make such zestful spicy flavours dance on my tongue like ballerinas, somehow manage to disappear 6.8% into thin air, and delicately lace the beer with glints of exquisite flavours most people won't even notice... that is all purely the work of a Belgian pedigree.

Fleur De Houblon has an absolutely lovely flavour profile that I'm completely absorbed with. Spicy, floral hops, malty grain and zesty, savory yeast all come through with singular clarity creating a beer that's balanced and harmonious. I can't think of many offerings more elegant, graceful and wondrously tasteful than this. Ommegang is still arguably the best stateside producer of Belgian ales.

Searching through the wonderful selection at Saveon I came upon this. Ommegang never does anything half assed, so I knew it would be a treat. I was right. The bottle says "summer ale" but with these guys, just insert the name and you also know it's a Belgian.

It looks like one of these should - pale yellow, foggy and very foamy. The aroma is excellent and pronounced. I smelled it from three feet away.

The taste is a clean Belgian yeasty, mildly hoppy, tangy and almost sweet like a Berliner. The finish is more bitter but overall it is extremely refreshing. It is not as boozy as some of this style and that helps keep the taste in line.

I could drink more of these but I'll need to go to the store cuz I'm out. Highly recommended.

I think I caught this beer on the perfect day. Unseasonably warm and sunny day in the normally dreary NW. It was just what I wanted, a refreshing summer ale. This is kinda like drinking a flower garden with some herbs and lemon thrown in for good measure... in a good way... but still with dry mouth. The yeast definitely comes through as well. Overall I loved it and I want to try more from this brewery.

A- Golden in color with a nice head
S- Floral hops and hints of earthiness
T- Like the smell, floral hops. earthy and yeast, a little spice. A subtle bitterness is also present.
M- Light body finishes on the dry side. The floral lingers on the palette
O- On the better side of the summer wheat style. Complex. Another solid Ommegang offering.

A - Hazy straw yellow with a big fluffy white head and strings of lace.

S - Wheat malt, light funk, wild flower, honey, citrus hops, bubblegum, light coriander type spice, grainy malt.

T - If I ever thought what a flower would taste like this would be it. Slightly tart with a touch of funk, honey graham cracker, earthy, flower and citrus, lemon, spicy herbal flavor and bubblegum that lingers on the tongue.

M - Medium body and well carbonated with a dry lingering spicy, bubblegum finish.

D - This beer screams summer. Complex and one of the better beers I have had this year.

Full head in a lager glass settling to 5 fingers

Appearance - Hazy golden hue with a huge size fizzy/frothy white coloured head.Great lacing.

Smell - Hops, coriander/clove, citrus, hop flower notes, lightly grassy, like a meadow

Taste & Mouth - Yeasty baked bread, grains, and hops. There is also some lemon, orange and floral. It ends with a fruity floral (rose water) aftertaste.

Overall – My best summer ale this year. wonderful flavors. I hope they make this regularly.
