Style: Belgian Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
Nothing is more evocative of summer than the beautiful aroma of flowers, and the favored flowers of brewers are hops. Our brand new summer ale, Fleur de Houblon (Hop Flowers), is brewed to bring the many elements of summer into a refreshing and easy-to-drink Belgian-style ale.

Fleur de Houblon is a rich gold color with distinct floral hops in the aroma that follow through in the taste. Whole-cone Bravo hops are used to impart their earthy, fruity, and floral aromas and flavors. The body and flavor are clean and dry, with pleasing complexity and spicy notes from both primary and secondary fermentation with our unique Ommegang house yeast.

A: Golden cloudy like thick lemonade, so thick its hard to see any carbonation. Crowned with a finger of white whipped cream like head.

S: Citrusy hops, some skunk, Belgian yeasts, coriander, light bubblegum.

T: Citrusy hops, Belgian yeasts, coriander, light bubblegum, lemon zest, some lemon juice tartness.

M: Medium slightly chewy body, medium fine bubbled carbonation.

O: The bottle and label including the name evokes Belgium to me, especially the Poperings region where hops are so celebrated in summer. The taste stands up to the style and name. Got this at Whole Foods in Boca Raton, drank in Deerfield Beach FL, July 18th, 2014.

pours an extremely hazy golden straw with a big head. nose; light belgian yeast and the bravo hop bag of tricks - earthy musk, dank citrus notes and peppercorn. taste; follows the nose - light belgian yeast, crackery malt, dank (and i mean DANK) hops, light sweet pear, pineapple and lemon, and dirty earthy peppercorn. wheat and bubble gum on the dry aftertaste. this beer has "summer ale" printed on the label and it's actually an exemplary belgian pale.

On tap at the Union Beer House in Lebanon, PA

Poured into a nice medium size goblet, faintly hazy, with bright white head. only moderate carbonation.

Getting the yeast and banana on the nose, however faintly.

No big flavor punch at all. But you know what, it's GOOD. Very mild and subtle flavors swirling around in the mouth, but somehow the flavors come through as full . Banana, yeast, light spice, even makes you think of summer. Extremely refreshing, but satisfying as a beer, not just as a quench thirster. I freely admit that Belgians mostly leave me cold. Maybe this hit me on the right day, in the right mood, and the right level of tiredness, but I can see happily putting away a six pack on a warm summers day.

Sorry, got a bit offtrack there. Mouth is medium and satisfying

Overall, well, see above. I am usually excited about beers that smack you in the mouth one way or another, and, again, Belgians of any style are not really my cup of tea. This was extremely enjoyable, and I'll seek it out for the rest of the summer.

Cheers.
