I went here for Belgium comes to Cooperstown, and it was by far one of if not the best beer fest i have been to! I thought the prices were a little on the higher end but i was very satisfied with their beer. They had lots of great beers and the staff is very knowledgeable. This has now become must go when ever i am in the area.

Great stop after the Baseball Hall of Fame. Outstanding Beer, beautiful setting. Had to wait a while to eat, but was quite happy drinking Nirvana IPA so didn't care. Food is pretty good as well. The muscles were outstanding.

For such a well-known brewery with wide distribution, I was surprised at just how remote Ommegang truly was. It is right up there with Hill Farmstead and Jester King, beating out the likes of Tree House, Smuttynose and Hoof Hearted by a wide margin. So obviously the drive can be pretty picturesque, but it is mostly farmland and windy, tree covered roads. There may even be the occasional hunting club shooting at targets precariously close to the same angle as oncoming traffic.

With that kind of unusual starting point, you drive up to that photogenic exterior we've all seen, with the large Belgian-style architecture you must drive under in order to pull in and park next to the even larger outdoor tanks (one of which is a cheesy moo-cow black and white print). Walking in, there is a bottle shop first, then the bar and restaurant after. You may be expecting a thematic restaurant and bar, and quite a large one considering the exterior, but its actually quite modest inside, with a few massive communal tables, then a few smaller ones, accompanied by one long bar. If you show up at 8PM on a Friday, don't expect to get comfortable or catch the full duration of a sports game. These guys are serious about closing time and will begin sweeping and picking up chairs at 8:45PM. It's not just awkward, but a bit rude, not to mention pretty lame for a brewery/bar.

The menu is also not very inspired, with pretty typical bar food that doesn't take much influence from the region their beer tends to look to for pointers and inspiration. While the food was serviceable and decently executed, and helps keep you fat and happy, it's disappointing they couldn't be bothered with offering as authentic an experience as possible to go along with the tease you get driving into the complex.

All in all, if you're coming here you've likely had plenty of Ommegang brews, and what they offer here is obviously fresher than you may get at your local super market. However, considering how dead they were on a Friday at 8PM and the fact that they prefer being closed as opposed to open, those kegs may not get changed out as often as one might expect. Not to mention, for being THE ACTUAL BREWERY, they didn't have very many Ommegang brews on tap and actually had more Duvel and Liefman's. Regardless, their beers are still consistently and reliably some of the best Belgian-style brews done in America and if you happen to be in the area for the Baseball Hall of Fame, it's probably a good place for many large groups to look forward to for a pit stop.

Big fan of this place! The place itself is very large. Beer tasting was very fun. They pair their great selection of beers (seasonal and flagship) with snack foods and jellies, mustards, peanut butter, etc.

Food: menu casual but distinctive with French touches. Staff sometimes not quite keeping up with the needs of customers but friendly and competent. Good enough to make the brewery a destination and of course happy to take home a trunk full of hour brews. Nice selection of Belgium brews in addition to the "home brews".

Visited on 5/21/16 - I have been on a number of tours at breweries. This place is special. They duplicated a Belgium brewery when they built it. It is small, surprisingly small, but worth the trip. I had JP as a tour guide. Wow! He knew his stuff and made it fun. They don't brew on the weekends. You come in off the main roadway through the arches and then find a parking spot. They had a beer tent setup, cornhole games going, and a very busy cafe and shop. They were very friendly.

The tour is great, the tasting was even better. JP was joined by Dillon who both breezed through the beers at the right speed and gave a ton of information. The entire staff was passionate and you could tell they loved their jobs! One of the best small brewery tours I have been on.

Maybe my honeymoon period with craft is over, and I'm becoming overly bitter, but when it comes to expectations vs reality, Ommegang may be the most disappointing brewery that I've ever visited.

The Duvel ownership was shoved down your throat the second you sat down at the bar. Half of the draft menu was Liefmans or Duvel, with two Boulevard beers. Only 4 actual Ommegang brews at the time of my visit, and none that were anything note-worthy. They were out of Three Philosophers, and I can't even begin to comprehend that.

The bartender had no interest in giving us any sort of service because it took him almost 10 minutes to acknowledge us. I ordered a flight, which took another 5 minutes to receive when my girlfriend and I were his only customers. As he set the flight down, my girlfriend started to say "and I'll have a..." as he walked away and completely ignored her. It took yet another 5 minutes for us to flag him down to get her a Rosetta. So 20 minutes to even get our beers when there were only 7 total people at the bar and 3 bartenders all standing around bullshitting, eating food, and drinking beer (can't totally fault them for the last one. I miss being a bartender). Halfway through the night he vanished only for us to notice that he was standing at the end of the bar talking to two women and completely ignoring us.

The food was heart-breaking. All of it sounded phenomenal, but nothing was that great. It was solid ideas and ingredients, but sloppy execution. Vanilla peppercorn gravy (on the chicken and waffles) has been delicious every time that I had it, except for here, where is was like greasy vanilla ice cream. It was all cold, poorly cooked, and disappointing.

I recognize my score is FAR below average, and almost everyone else has had great experiences here. I'll try not to let this one bad bartender sully my image of the brewery, but he was terrible. Just the worst.

Not taking points off for this, but it's a major annoyance: there is no cell signal here. At all. Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint/T-Mobile (I have Google Fi). This wouldn't be a huge deal, but their WiFi can only support about 10 people/devices before you can't receive an IP. Lame.

I visited Ommegang when I was in Rochester for a friend's wedding, we made the trek over to Cooperstown and did the brewery/baseball HOF two-fer. When you're driving up to the main building, you feel like you're in the Belgian countryside approaching the unique main farmhouse. It was a hot summer day and we got shaded seats on the back patio area which overlooks a beautiful green field and the rest of the Ommegang estate.

I stopped briefly inside to make a trip to the gift shop, so I didn't really get to experience the main bar area. I'd love to get back here and do the sampling activity they have set-up. Got to love Cooperstown!
