Drove to Cooperstown from Syracuse to visit Brewery Ommegang.
Did the brewery tour, tasting, shopped in gift shop, and ate/drank in the Café.

The café had recently been opened/renovated from what I was told. We sat at the bar which was very nice. The atmosphere of the café was excellent: dim, large heavy wooden tables, chalkboards in the back with Brewery events and seasonal brew details, along with tasteful beer art (wooden Maredsous signs, etc.)

Beer selection was excellent: a variety of usual Ommegang brews, Duvel, Maredsous 6 and 8, and a few Chouffe taps.

The food menu had an excellent selection with a wide variety.

I had the house oysters and a La Chouffe and Ommegang Three Philosphers. My girlfriend had Ommegang Hennepin and we shared some ice cream. The ice cream was some sort of roasted coffee caramel something. I can't remember exactly but it was great!

Service was good, the bartenders were a little hard to get a hold of for another beer at times despite not being very busy. But one was able to stand and talk beer for a few minutes when it slowed down, which was nice. We were given a heads-up that the food would take a little bit longer than usual because they only had one chef working, which we did not mind at all, we were just happy to be there enjoying our beer.

Definitely worth a trip out to visit Brewery Ommegang and the Café. I had a blast and will definitely remember the experience fondly now that I have moved back to Texas and most likely won't be able to visit again.

True Belgian farmhouse brewery feel with a NY flare, Superb Belgian style ales that rival some of the greatest Belgian beers. Food is delicious from the Belgian style foods to the more average pub fare. Friendly faces all around and beer tastings and tours at 5$ you can't beat it! All nestled into the beautiful landscape and hills of Cooperstown. Truely magical place. Also to be noted, there always is a limited time beer in the merchandising room which I as a avid beer drinker really appreciate. GO TO BREWERY OMMEGANG!

Finally got up to Ommegang after saying I wanted to check it out for a long time. The place is pretty large, there is a taproom, a gift shop, and a pub area where you can get food. That doesn't even include the brewing space which I'm sure is huge. The service and the beers were good. The selection was nice too because they had some specialty beers they released in bottles. I wouldn't mind visiting again sometime.

Great stop after the Baseball Hall of Fame. Outstanding Beer, beautiful setting. Had to wait a while to eat, but was quite happy drinking Nirvana IPA so didn't care. Food is pretty good as well. The muscles were outstanding.

For such a well-known brewery with wide distribution, I was surprised at just how remote Ommegang truly was. It is right up there with Hill Farmstead and Jester King, beating out the likes of Tree House, Smuttynose and Hoof Hearted by a wide margin. So obviously the drive can be pretty picturesque, but it is mostly farmland and windy, tree covered roads. There may even be the occasional hunting club shooting at targets precariously close to the same angle as oncoming traffic.

With that kind of unusual starting point, you drive up to that photogenic exterior we've all seen, with the large Belgian-style architecture you must drive under in order to pull in and park next to the even larger outdoor tanks (one of which is a cheesy moo-cow black and white print). Walking in, there is a bottle shop first, then the bar and restaurant after. You may be expecting a thematic restaurant and bar, and quite a large one considering the exterior, but its actually quite modest inside, with a few massive communal tables, then a few smaller ones, accompanied by one long bar. If you show up at 8PM on a Friday, don't expect to get comfortable or catch the full duration of a sports game. These guys are serious about closing time and will begin sweeping and picking up chairs at 8:45PM. It's not just awkward, but a bit rude, not to mention pretty lame for a brewery's bar.

The menu is also not very inspired, with pretty typical bar food that doesn't take much influence from the region their beer tends to look to for pointers and inspiration. While the food was serviceable and decently executed, and helps keep you fat and happy, it's disappointing they couldn't be bothered with offering as authentic an experience as possible to go along with the tease you get driving into the complex.

All in all, if you're coming here you've likely had plenty of Ommegang brews, and what they offer here is obviously fresher than you may get at your local super market. However, considering how dead they were on a Friday at 8PM and the fact that they prefer being closed as opposed to open, those kegs may not get changed out as often as one might expect. Not to mention, for being THE ACTUAL BREWERY, they didn't have very many Ommegang brews on tap and actually had more Duvel and Liefman's. Regardless, their beers are still consistently and reliably some of the best Belgian-style brews done in America. If you happen to be in the area for the Baseball Hall of Fame, it's probably a good place for many large groups to look forward to for a pit stop.

Big fan of this place! The place itself is very large. Beer tasting was very fun. They pair their great selection of beers (seasonal and flagship) with snack foods and jellies, mustards, peanut butter, etc.

Food: menu casual but distinctive with French touches. Staff sometimes not quite keeping up with the needs of customers but friendly and competent. Good enough to make the brewery a destination and of course happy to take home a trunk full of hour brews. Nice selection of Belgium brews in addition to the "home brews".
