Seriously? This looks and smells and tastes like a saison. Apricot colored with a low white head that runs away quickly. Low aroma of biscuit and bready notes. Bready flavor upfront followed quickly by yeastiness, finishes clovey. Thin mouthfeel. Yeast funk lingers.

Sampling a cellar temp growler poured into a snifter. The beer pours a fairly hazy goldenrod color with billowing fluffy bleached white head of 4 cm. The head fades slowly to a sturdy edge layer and a thin wispy surface layer. A rich chocolatey aroma is present immediately from the pour into my glass. I also get a little bit of roasted notes and a little bit of a nutty hint buried in the nose. This beer certainly smells like a stout.
The first sip reveals a lighter body than I anticipated and a gentle rolling carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt and some caramel and again a bit of nutty toffee. There are some herbal hops that leave just a hint of lingering note on the finish. There is also some bitter coffee notes on the finish that also linger. There are no hints of any booze on this beer and the drinkability is pretty high as I work through the growler.
The white or pale stout style still amazes me with the color and the flavor and nose combos. This one is tasty and easy to drink. Worth a sample if you are travelling through Ellington.

32oz Crowler from Brewery. Beer is listed on the label as a "White Stout". Not sure what that is supposed to be. It pours a murky slightly orangish golden color. There was no head or lacing. Interesting nose. I get coffee, so perhaps that is how they associate it with a stout. The taste is OK. Some coffee, a touch of white chocolate, malts in background. Minimal sweetness. Different.
