The intense flavors of dark-roasted malt in Boulevard’s rendition of the classic English porter are perfectly balanced by a generous and complex hop character. Bully! Porter’s robust nature makes it the ideal companion to a variety of foods, from seafood to chocolate.

Poured into a mug.
A: Dark ruby-black with minimal light able to pierce through. Light-tan head is bubbly and lively, and got up to about two fingers before settling down. Very good lacing.
S: Very strong roasted malt aromas with a hint of earthy hops coming through as well. Subtle suggestions of coffee and bitter chocolate.
T: Nice roasted barley backdrop is not overly sweet. Significant hop presence balances nicely and keeps things interesting. A very interesting dichotomy going on here.
M: Nice medium body and well-carbonated to boot. Aftertaste is bitter roastiness and the finish is quite clean.
D: Very drinkable. Would make an ideal session porter.
This is hands down the most balanced, drinkable porter I've come across thus far, and is easily the best among Boulevard's year-round brews. Certainly hoppier than a lot of porters, but I admire the originality. This should be a staple in bars across the Midwest!

A middle of the road beer you'd probably never order, but would enjoy if you got it in a sample pack like I did. Drank from the bottle, it's a medium profile with a forwardly hop taste.

355 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Ølen. ABV is 6.0%. Dark ruby colour, large and lasting beige head. Pleasant aroma, mild roasty notes, prunes, chocolate and mild coffee. Medium dry flavour, smooth and easy drinking, chocolate, mild coffee and a hint of liquorice. Hops, coffee and wood in the aftertaste.

Look: Black with a big tan head that dissipates slowly.
Smell: Toasty, coffee, dark chocolate, robust malts.
Taste: Smooth and toasty in the mouth, giving way to more bittersweet earthy flavors after swallowing.
Feel: Medium body, normal carbonation. Leaves a warm, dry mouthfeel.
Overall: Solid porter, easy drinking

Pours fairly light (dark but not nearly opaque) with good head and lacing.
The aromas are interesting. Toasty, nutty, coffee and faint hop notes. The flavor is less clear/more muddled. The feel is ok, but somewhat chalky and could use more carbonation. It's an ok brew, but mediocre for this brewer.

This is a solid porter. Its a little bitter on the backend, but it has some smokiness and chocolate tones that balance that a bit.

Pours black with two fingers of khaki foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is roasty, toasty, nutty, earthy and caramely malts with light earthy and semi-grainy notes. Flavor profile is roasty, toasty, nutty, earthy, caramely malts with the earthy portion coming on stronger at the finish. There are modest notes of chocolate with lighter notes of molasses and toffee, especially towards the finish. Mouth feel is medium-thick with lightly grainy particulate texture that feels a little sporadic. Overall, solid porter with robust qualities and a thicker texture.

Dark mahogany colored body; thick, sculpted head; sheets of foam sticking to the glass. Nice caramel malt aroma; a bit nut-like. Good flavor; a bit of dark malt, not too sweet; nice hop bitterness balancing things out; some roasted grain notes. Medium body; slick and warm on the palate; semi-dry mouthfeel throughout.
A nice porter, not overly rich or flavorful yet easy drinking.

Nice rich black in color - very dark
Not very aromatic, mostly piney hops - hints of coffee and chocolate
Tastes quite bitter and hoppy at first - then some dark roasted grains come in with chocolate hints - quite dry
Feels a bit thinner than a porter should but still fairly full
Overall a good tasting beer. Seems more like a Black IPA than a Robust Porter.
