A: Pours an opaque extremely dark brown, almost black in color with some highlights of reddish brown when held up to the light and moderate amounts of visible carbonation along the surface at the edges of the glass. The beer has a three finger tall frothy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a dense half finger tall patch covering the majority of the center of the beer with a thinner layer between that and the thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of dark roasted and burnt malts with some lighter notes of coffee.

T: There is a moderate to strong flavor of very dark roasted malts including some hints of burnt malts and charcoal. After the malt flavors, there are also moderate flavors of bittersweet chocolate and espresso (bitter coffee) that is almost burnt. Light to moderate amounts of lingering bitterness.

M: Slightly fuller than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Creamy and coats the inside of your mouth/tongue.

O: Probably a bit closer to a stout than a porter in mouthfeel but that likely improves it a little in my opinion. Easy to drink and enjoyable - I would definitely have another but not sure this could be a session beer for me.

Review from 8/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head and lacing. Porter aroma of roasted and dark malt. Light smoky and roasted malts, a hint of chocolate. Light to medium bodied. Nothing outstanding, but a solid low ABV porter.

A new (or at least newly noticed) addition to the Utah system, so I had to give it a try. 12 oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

Appearance: This one pours beautifully! Three fingers of billowing head sit on top of brown beer with ruby highlights as you hold it up to the light. Looks like there is a scoop of vanilla ice cream the way the head settled. Nice lacing.

Smell: Coffee, roasted malts, and some herbal earthy hops. To be honest, the smell is a little muted because of the large head.

Taste: The taste is quite good. Grainy roasted malts with a bit of coffee or slight cocoa flavor. Mild bitterness from the hops with some astringency from the roast.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is soft and plentiful wile the body is smooth. Plenty of flavor to coat the mouth.

Overall: I enjoyed this porter quite a lot and will get some more of it down the road.

Pours a dark dark brown with a thick and creamy tan head that's still has a pinky lingering halfway through. Mainly roasted grain on the nose; burnt coffee is a good description coming through as well. Lacing really hanging on 2/3 of the way through, and mouthfeel eases off as well as beer warms. Pronounced bitterness, especially in the aftertaste. Little to no hop aroma, little to no sweetness. I like a little more sweetness or hop aroma, but this would be killer with some KC style burnt ends!
