Notes / Commercial Description:
The Calling is an undeniable IPA we were driven to make. It's our tribute to like-minded dreamers, adventurous spirits, and glass half-full optimists. It's also our most heavily hopped beer ever, bursting forth with unmistakable tropical fruit and pine hop aromas and flavor supported with a slightly sweet malt character, tapering to a crisp, dry finish. Heed your call and enjoy.

Starts quite sweet, and finishes with a nice floral bitterness.

A: medium gold color with a vague haze; couple of fingers of off-white head left some lace drapings down the glass

S: tropical and floral and citric hops atop clean and fresh malt grains

T: a real punch in the mouth of flavors - tropical and juicy and fruity and bitter and delicious - malt rich base full of hearty grains is not lost under the massive hop currents

M: medium-weight and plush but also crisp and solidly bitter; finishes with that "I gotta have more" vibe

O: excellent and highly recommended IPA action - comes in at a serious 8.5% abv

Drank from a pint glass on the official release night at PJ Ryan's in Somerville, MA.
Hazy golden straw pour, with a bright white head that dissipates a little too quickly. First sip though, taste is crisp and excellent - great juicy IPA. Slight fruitiness is there, perfect bitterness and hoppy. Definitely a more aggressive beer than Boulevard's earlier hoppy offerings, but still with characteristic balance. As it warms up, traces of melon, pineapple on the nose and lingering in the taste. Really nice, and as the layers reveal themselves, the payoff is very satisfying. This is an IPA with teeth and flavor. A great one.

This is the IPA that I've been waiting for from blvd.
L- clear golden color, good head retention.

S- right as I cracked the cap I immediately got big citrus and tropical fruit. After it settled a tangerine nose over took with some pineapple and green melon.

T- big grapefruit, tangerine, citrus rind with lighter pineapple, mango and maybe coconut....?? Bitter rinds, dried mango and hints of pine lingers on the pallet for some time.

O- great american DIPA well worth the wait.

Had the Calling at Next Door Pizza, Longview Farms in Lee's Summit.
Looks good in the glass more gold than orange, with a nice head that sticks around -
Starts off smooth with a subtle citrus hue to accompany the nice malty mouth feel and flavor.
Interesting bitter somewhat veggie finish that my be unpleasant to some. My Bro' in law was not fond of it, but to be expected with this style.
While not my favorite in the SmokeStack series, a solid offering and I'm sure they will keep trying.

Been a few days since I had 2 glasses on tap. In a boulevard tulip. This is "replacing" double-wide ipa (one of my favorite doubles of all time) and I honestly don't care for it as much. No malt whatsoever, though the tropical-forward hops are a nice change from most boring IPAs.

It's okay, but just that.
