Snifter at Bridge in St. Louis.

True garnet with a thin head, which disappears quickly. Rich, buttery aroma. Toffee, See's chocolate caramel hard candy, all malt. Flavor a little simpler than the aroma. Dulled chocolate malt, dark caramel, vanilla finish. Thin body with a tickle. Interesting beer from Boulevard. If you're feeling malt, you'll dig this.

Draft at City Tap House. Kind of weak for a Scotch ale, but in the ballpark for a winter warmer. Malty for sure, slightly earthy. Scotch, barely. Tasty, yes

I've never been a fan of scotch ales. There's a disgusting thick syrupy sweetness I find off putting in almost all instances. This one's no exception, I got two in a variety pack, and couldn't finish the second one. Drank both straight out of the bottle. I find the smell off putting too, it's sweet and thick like the drink.

Snow & Tell has a thin, bone-colored head, and a rust-red, translucent, bubbly appearance, with minimal lacing. The aroma is of faint brown bread crust and little else. The taste is of the same, with a touch of oak and sourness. Snow & Tell has a thin-to-medium body and a dry finish. Overall, it's bland.

Appearance:
Deep rusty red and crystal clear, thin creamy head that is thin but lasting and lacing.

Aroma:
Freshly cut oak tree. Too intense. Smells more like furniture or firewood than something I would want to drink. Outside of a moderate smell of dark malts and alcohol, nearly all I smell is freshly cut WOOD.

Flavor:
Again, tastebuds are lost in the woods like the nose. Aside from the strong oak flavor, there are some dark bread, and fruit notes that are very pleasant.

Mouthfeel:
Feels great! Medium body, nominal CO2 for style and a silky-smooth texture that makes it so enjoyable to sip and savor.

Overall:
This oak-aged beer is a mixed bag. In my opinion, the oak character is overpowering but the base beer is so damn delicious it sort of balances it out. The individual ratings on the five dimensions are up and down. This is a see-saw score.

*From a 2020 Sampler 12*

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 16oz pint glass.

L: Poured a dark caramel brown color with a thin tan/beige colored head that quickly faded. Low carbonation, and minimal lacing.

S: Aroma is nutty, roasty, bready/malty, some caramel, and sort of smoky.

T: The taste follows the nose with lingering flavor smooth mouth feel and medium body.

O: Overall a delicious beer. At an ABV of 5.9% (on bottle 6.3% on BLVD website. Not sure about that one.) However it's not real boozy. Pretty easy and smooth drinking for a wee heavy, and actually pretty light. Glad I tried it!

"Best by 3/14/16"; drank 1/2/16 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque blood red appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; minimal lace.

Raspberry, vanilla & faint red grape notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Cream soda & raspberry soda flavors up front; smooth oak notes on the finish.

Sessionable, with nice winter flavors; more Scottish than Scotch, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle to wine glass.

Look: medium brown, with a medium off white head.
Aroma: wood, bread, malt.
TASTE: wood, light nuttiness, touch of soap.
FEEL: a touch flat, a touch thin for a winter beer.

OK.
