Notes: Our Original Beer 1st Keg - Nov. 17, 1989

Boulevard Pale Ale is a smooth, fruity, well-balanced beer with year-round appeal. A variety of caramel malts impart a rich flavor and amber color, while liberal use of whole hops adds zest and aroma. Pale Ale is the first beer we brewed, and continues to be a perennial favorite.

How Boulevard plucked the last drops of color from a Fall Missouri sunset to make the warm amber of their Pale Ale, I will never know. My nose pushes through a short note of citrus, through a sea of caramel, and finally landing on an island of tender pine. Caramel and a distant forest dance around my tongue before leaving a bittersweet kiss, daring me to follow.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is a slightly hazy orange-golden color with a thin, bubbly head. The smell is enjoyable, primarily of piney and citrusy hops but there is also a light sweet maltyness about it. Initially on the taste there is a slight maltyness and hint of yeast which is quickly covered by a pretty bitter finish. The mouthfeel is a heavy medium bodied beer with a light amount of carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty drinkable beer and an enjoyable one. At 4.9% this could easily be a sessionable one.

Pours a foggy muted orange. Creme head. Bland nose. Flavor is a real nice smooth mix of citrus, floral hops, and minor but smooth bitter. I like it. Almost seems like there is a nutri thing on the very underside. Feel is smooth on liquid with a noticed carbonation. This is a smooth pale ale. I think it's an excellent beer to try a cask version of.

Thanks to mugglesandhops on this one.

Aroma is floral and fairly resiny, with light toasted malt and a hint of citrus pith.

Flavor reveals a bit more citrus emerging mid palate, and a dry, herbal, lightly bitter finish. The toasted malt lingers throughout. Very approachable.

Amber. Toasty malt with caramel, some yeast, hint of citrus. The taste follows, with some light fruit esters. A little sweet. Medium bodied. Nice and drinkable.

Appearance: Poured a cloudy, murky yellow with an inch of foamy head, that dissipated very quickly.

Smell: Very fragrant with a flowering blossom scent, along with a sweetness akin to caramel.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Strong hops upfront mellows down two levels with the first maintaining the bouquet quality and the last having a slight honey taste. The bitterness of the hops shines through again at the end. Really smooth overall for a pale ale.

Drinkability: I've really been digging on all of Boulevards' beers and this one is no exception. Good style and good company. Another winner.

A: The beer is slightly hazy amber in color. It poured with a finger high off white head that never completely faded away.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of pale malts in the nose along with some hints of citrusy hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has flavors of bready and caramel malts with hints of citrus. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is quite easy to drink and can be considered sessionable.

Poured from a 12 ounce glass into a BrewDog cervoise glass.

A: Honey-colored and hazy. Not translucent. Not much head, but heavy lacing.

S: Typical pale ale, but pleasant. Fresh hops. Pine. Citrus.

T: This is a darn tasty pale ale. Surprising sweetness really complements the citric acidity. Pleasant and herbal lingering finish. This is a damn fine pale ale. Quintessential, even. Highly recommended.

M: Malt base is substantial and beer is crispy and refreshing.

I had this beer after the Goose Island 312. Drank this with my Pulled Pork sandwich with Honey BBQ sauce at BW3 in Savoy. The beer was an amber color with a good head and lacing.
The hops were evident from the first smell and continued to dominate in the taste. This gave the brew an enjoyable bitter taste.
Worked well with the sandwich and I would definitely revisit this beer in the future. Too bad this was my second beer and I had to leave.

12 oz bottle served in a Nonic.

A- Very nice copper color with two finger biscuit colored head, which quickly dissipated into a thin rim of lace producing foam. Clear for a bottle conditioned Ale.

S- Clean, Pine scent up front followed with a malty characteristic.

T- Very good for the style, hop bitterness is not overt, just a nice buzz on the back of the tongue.

M- Good amount of carbonation, nice malt character, followed by a suble dryness.

D- A perfect session beer, nothing punching you in the face, just a good beer.
