Never content with brewing "to style," our brewing team's approach to Funkier Pumpkin is far from your standard take on pumpkin spice beers. Choosing to focus on the complexity that brettanomyces can bring to a beer, Funkier Pumpkin offers subtle pumpkin flavor accented by traditional spicing in a beer that showcases the hallmark earthy/forest floor notes of our house wild yeast strain.

Opens with a resound pop! Pours an effervescent bronze next to zero head. No head retention or lacing
S: Musty, pears, white grape
T: Follows the, a little pumpkin, some all-spice & a little tart tangerine & dryness up front. Dryness & tartness as this warms, along with grapefruit, a little white grape too, faint mustyness & pumpkin also. Finishes dry, tart, with tangerine & a whisper of grapefruit & white grape
MF: Medium body with fairly firm carbonation. a little enamel sucking stickyness
Drinks easy enough, the pumpkin is very understated, the Brett isn't

Bottle shared by Paul, thanks for the opportunity.
Hazy light gold in color thin off white head. Pumpkin spice aroma and flavor with a bready maltiness and a faint earthy funk. Not horrible but still a pumpkin beer.

Poured from a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Hazed golden orange pour with thick creamy white head. Nice ring of lacing.
S: Tartness/funk with some pumpkin and pie spices in the background
T/F: Tart up front without being sour. No pucker. Pumpkin/gourd flavor, barnyard/funk, and mild spice. The brett character is stronger than the spice and that works to its advantage as the flavors kind of work together. A little citrus and grass. Some sweetness mid sip with more tartness and funk at the finish. Medium to light bodied... sticky on the tongue.
O: A surprisingly good beer. More of a mild wild ale than a pumpkin beer, and the flavor combo works better than I would have guessed. Would definitely have this one again.

750ml cork & cage bottle poured into a goblet
A- pours a clear amber color with a two-finger foamy white head that has great retention long after the pour
S- a nice mix of fall spices and brett; cinnamon, clove & nutmeg mix with some barnyard, hay and lemon peel. Surprisingly they all work well together
T- spice notes of cinnamon and clove up front, followed by subtle notes of lemon, dried hay and some funky undertones. The finish adds more spices and a hint of tart pumpkin
M- medium body with moderate effervescent carbonation leads to a bubble mouthfeel and a crisp dry finish
O- wasn't sure about this one, but the brett works surprisingly well with the pumpkin spicing, very good

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a nice large–off white foamy head with OK retention and not much lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light funky ester with some cinnamon and cloves notes also noticeable. Taste is an interesting mix with subtle notes of cinnamon, cloves and pumpkin with some dry Brett notes with some tart notes and a dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Intertying mix of flavours but spice notes could have been even more pronounced.

Poured into a tulip:
L: orange body with champagne foamy head that quickly dissipates to think foamy puddle
A: pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and funk
T: artificial pumpkin spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, herbs, earthy, and brett funk with mild sourness
F: fizzy and thin
O: wish it was more sour and had used real pumpkin but fits holiday mood

750 ml cork and cage bottle. An LCBO purchase for $15.95 CDN. Pulled out of the cellar (it's quite cold right now) and left to sit out for about 30 minutes. Then served into a tulip glass.
Appearance - Pours a hazy, golden orange colored brew. A finger of off white head is poured and then dissipates very quickly. Some visible carbonation.
Smell - Sweet and sour. Caramel, bubble gum, hints of pumpkin pie with a fruit berry sourness aroma too. Quite floral and certainly a unique smell.
Taste - A very complex brew. Some spices, plenty of bitterness, with herbal notes too. Pumpkin, brett, sour gooseberry flavors mix interestingly with some honey and caramel sweetness at the start. Finishes more sour and bitter than it starts. Earthiness throughout. Tart but with a little "t" as opposed to a capital one.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied overall, but quite light for a 8.5% ABV beer, quite fizzy initially and finishes soft and a a little flatter like many of the Belgian sours of there.
Overall - Not really in my wheelhouse, but a well made and certainly interesting brew. Funkier Pumpkin is one of those beers that is hard to define and certainly pushes the boundaries of what a pumpkin beer can be. Even still this is more of a spiced beer to me as that is what stands out as.

Bright orange and cloudy with a little carbonation, and topped with a finger of yellowish head.
Smells of brett, sour apples, lemons, hints of wood ageing, pumpkin and a light fruitiness.
Sweet and sour with all the pumpkin spices. Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and ginger. Its slightly sweet, a little sour, and overall very light.
Light body, with lots of carbonation.
Got this in Stratford, ON, and I'm drinking it in nearby New Hamburg. Very well done, a little light for my liking, but cuts it for the seasonal pumpkin brew.

25.7oz bottle into Libbey Tulip
BB 2/2018 stored in the cellar since 10/2016
L- pours a pale orange/light pink (a really cool color), thin white bubbly head
S- cloves, nutmeg, Brett
T- this beer starts off as a classic Pumpkin beer, with the classic gourd-y pumpkin taste and spices, that is quickly followed by a tart sour flavor that is just right, and finishes with funky Brett character
F- medium-bodied, average carbonation, was super drinkable, couldn't detect a trace of alcohol
Overall this is not the average take on a Pumpkin beer, but this is quite the Pumpkin Beer! The most impressive factor was how all the flavors were balanced beautifully, despite the seeming random mix going on.
