Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish orange with a fine, three finger khaki head with good retention and slippery solid lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, whiskey, raisins, light apricot, dates, oaky vanilla and spicy rye; somewhat boozy. Flavor is deep caramel malt, oaky vanilla, whiskey and rye, dates, raisins, hints of dark stone fruit and wisps of orange citrus. Lightly spicy rye and caramel finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I loved Rye on Rye when I first had it years ago and was happy to see this bigger version re-released. It's been so long I no longer remember exactly how the older variant tasted, but I gave it high marks. This one is rich and flavorful too. Lots of caramel and vanilla from the barrel and lighter, complex fruit notes surface during the taste. Some spicy rye livens things up. This is a stellar strong ale and excellent use of rye malt and rye whisky barrels. Highly recommended.

Decent enough pour. Nice medium brown color, good head.

Pleasant smell. Caramel, sweet, but not overly so.

Good taste. I do feel/taste the alcohol, but not in an unpleasant way.

Good beer, very strong.

Clear, chestnut brown pour; dense, lively carbonation; huge bubbles; thick, spongy head. Very muted aroma; mild spiciness; some caramel and light brown sugar; very light phenol presence. Decent roasted malt and spicy flavors; brown sugar; more phenol presence; nutty; molten pecans; rye whiskey hint. Heavy body; velvety; mild stickiness; warm.

I anticipated a bolder rye character with this beer but didn't pick up on it. Sure, there is some element of that unique rye quality, but not as dominant as the beer's name would suggest (to me). That said, I like this beer. It does have rye zestiness but not in a bold manner. It seems more malt-forward with a rye edginess. Good, bordering on great, but shy of true uniqueness.

Appearance: Dark brown with good head at first, poor retention.

Smell: Boozy, then vanilla, wood.

Taste: Maybe a kind of rye spice note then caramel cut with a lot of wood. Weirdly light feeling for 15% abv. Gets a little toffee/tootsie roll note to it as it warms, with the spice underneath.

Overall: Number three in the mixed BA pack from Boulevard, this again was kind of weird. The body was a little light for such a big beer. Some interesting flavors from all the rye flying around though.

Poured from bottle into tulip, good 1+ finger dark kaki head, so so retention good lacing. Rubyish brown in the glass, somewhat hazy. Whiskey notes on the nose along with toffee, caramel, dark fruit and vanillin. Taste follows the nose, barrel notes chased with sweet malt, dark candy notes show up, caramel, toffee and then there are some raisin and fig hanging out in the middle. The finish on this beer is somewhat sweet, not cloying, but it is there in your face. Residual fig on the palate, along with some lingering barrel notes.

Bottle pour - murky mahogany with khaki head leaving a ring of tiny bubbles and scant lacing. Nose is sweet and spicy grain with boozy barrel wood. Taste follows in a big way, lingering all the way home. Delicious as can be.

Another incredibly impressive barreled offering from Boulevard. This one pours like a monster, redd-ish caramel body that mostly opaque with a small ring of khaki head. Huge notes of sweetness and a smack of whiskey on the nose, this thing is all rye and spirit...spice, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar....rich and sweet, but harmonious overall. A creamy and smooth SIPPER.

The rye flavor is nice, but the beer is too boozy and too thin, compared to other high ABV beers that I have enjoyed.

Nearly opaque dark reddish brown with a modest tan head.
The aroma is spicy rye. The taste is big sweet spicy rye, a bit boozy and nicely warming, hints of apples, figs and raisins.
The body is full, good carbonation level, creamy smooth, excellent for sipping.
Altogether, OMG, is this stuff really beer? This is definitely big beer, big flavor, body and ABV, it is another great after dinner slow sipping dessert or winter warmer, close to heaven in a glass.

2023 bottle.

Brown caramel color. Beige head that settles.

Smooth, warming, spicy. Rye and then some. This is like the good old days of rye on rye, but amplified and stronger but not boozey. Oak, whiskey, caramel, toffee, rye, dried apple skins, some dark fruits. Just an outstanding beer.
