At a recent bottle share, Love Child 4 through 8 were sampled. This reviews will compare all 5.

Minus No. 5, most of the brews had a reddish tint to the appearance. Carbonation was visible in each.

A fruity oaky nose was noted in No 4, No 6. Cherry Lime was specifically noted in No. 6. In No. 5, No. 7, and No. 8, the nose was more dry and oaky with fruit being less pronounced.

In terms of taste, 4 and 6 were the clear winners as fruit followed the taste. No. 5 and 8 were the weak links as they were more acidic. I did not feel like much was happening in the those selections. No. 7 had a drier fruity presence, which was a nice change up. Grape and cherry skin were noted.

Carbonation came with the style. The aging created a dry presence that clung to the side of the mouth.

In order of preference from best to worst, I will say 4, 6, 7, 8, 5

this is a really neat beer because its all done in wine barrels this time around. tastes like something big and woody and fruity too, a napa cabernet or something like it, robust for sure on the barrel flavor, none of the sweetness i remember from some of the bourbon aged batches this has a cool almost pinky looking light amber hazy color to it, a full inch of bubbly white head, and a certain regal glow. it smells wine forward, but tastes even more so, tannic and fruity, with dried cherries, cranberries, and blackberries all there, tanned leather, even something sort of garden fresh, a currant or something, really cool. the wood is a lot, and the sourness makes the mouth water. for how fruity the smell is, the flavor is way more yeast driven. lactic and tangy, acidic and lemony, zesty and fresh, cleanish, sharp though, more wine and associated mouthfeels, drier though for all the fruitiness, compelling and different. notes of orange and iron later on, wheat malt in over its head, and a beautiful belgian essence. heady beer right here, i seem to have liked this series better and better as it has moved along. number 7 is absolutely one of the best so far.

Neighbor brought this one up from down state. It poured a slightly hazy amber with fizzy white head that eventually dissapated and leaving no lace. The scent is sour cherry. The taste is very sour...with ripe cherry being the main assailant. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with big carbonation. Overall this is a great sour beer and certainly should be tried by sour fans.

Opens with a resounding pop! Pours a very bubbly amber/brown with 3 fingers of beige colored head. Hazes a bit. Above aver head retention & nice lacing

S: Some sourness, not a ton of nose, no discernible funk

T: Sourness, green apple, tartness and vinegar notes up front. A little raspberry creeps in as this warms; oaky dryness as well, then plenty sour, plus a little choke cherry. Finishes dry with a slightly sweeter cherry and plenty of tartness

MF: Medium body, fairly assertive carbonation, acidity is very restrained

Enjoyed this one, wish the nose was more prominent, Brett presence was minimal

Great sour beer that manages to strike the appropriate balance of funk and sour, neither peeling enamel nor smelling like an overworked outhouse. Perhaps a bit of fruit/cherry aroma/flavor thrown in there, but moreso I get goodly doses of oak, sweet, funkified oak. Really good stuff.

Clear amber with some light bubbles and a thin white head.

The aroma offers tart cherries, raspberries, red wine vinegar, a touch of brown sugary sweetness, and a spicy vanilla-like note.

Upfront, you get a big smack of sour cherry skins, raspberries, and tart red apples, punctuated by apple cider vinegar acidity. In the middle, you can detect some biscuit and brown sugar from the malt. The finish ends funky, dry, and sour. You get a mildew and hay note, accompanied by coriander, perhaps oak tannins, vanilla and coriander. Maybe a touch of alcohol from the spiciness.

The mouthfeel is medium, dry, well-carbonated.

look: A golden, reddish peach, hazy. Thick swath of off white head with soapy lacing.
smell: Bright sweetish citrus and a delicate tarty funk.
taste: much like the nose with a developing tartness that lingers in the finish.

A: The beer is clear yellowish amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that died down, leaving a small patch of bubbles in the center of the glass and a collar around the edge.
S: Moderate aromas of sour funk are present in the nose along with hints of oak and strawberries. The funkiness subsides as the beer begins to warm up.
T: The taste follows the smell, but is more sour than funky and has additional notes of vinegar with some hints of raspberries and other fruits.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and rather tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is pleasantly sour and tart—it almost reminds me like one of Cascade's offerings—but seems to have more underlying complexities in the taste.
