Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.30%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Changeling is an enchanting blend of dark sour ales aged in whiskey and wine barrels that were inoculated with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus. It pours a deep ruby color with touches of gold at the edges of the glass. Leading with plum and toasty malt, the flavor transmutes into a soft tartness, with notes of earthy, funky Brett and a touch of lingering caramel to create a delicate balance.

Deep brown with light amber highlights. There's a fingernail of beige around the rim and covering about half of the middle of the glass. A few minutes later there's no head at all. The aroma is of stone fruit, caramel, brettanomyces, and a hint of merlot. I'm tasting stone fruit, brettanomyces, and a splash of dark malt. The mouth is very carbonated and dry.

Though the Changeling appears to be a sickly brown, it smells tart and fruity, like gooseberries, and it tastes sour and funky. Notes of sour plum, gooseberry and even a little citrus can be found. It has a thicker feel than some sours but is also refreshing and somewhat crisp.

I tried this beer at my old neighbor's house in the 'Wego. It poured a clear dark amber with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had tart hints. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with subtle tartness being present. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a new beer style, dark sour, for me and I thought it was decent.

Changeling pours a dark brown color, with a small, long lasting and lacing head. Earthy and tart aroma. Flavor is earthy, with sweet dark fruits, and a pretty big tart finish. Good body and feel. Overall, a very good sour beer.

Pours an orange-hued brown with a oinky of tan head. No head retention or lacing

S: Much sourness, a little red grape, raisins, a little grassyness

T: Jammyness, a little tartness & dryness, red grape skins up front. Oaky dryness, red grapes & tannins as this warms, slight figgyness& a touch of booze warmth, plus the sourness picks up. Finishes with red wine dryness/oakyness, a little kiss of vanilla & caramel & some sour apple shows late

MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation

Drinks pretty easy for the complexity, a very solid dark sour, a style I am starting to lose intesrest in, this may reverse the trend! The red grape component really works well in this one

Pours a deep amber with an ample tan cap. Good retention. Aroma is light - some loam from the Brett, a bland straw, dashes of caramel malt that fails to fully assert itself, noticeab lack of barrel characteristics.

Taste is more realized if not quite exceptional. Lots of dark, sour plum upfront (the most fleshed-out and successful element) with the Brett & wine barrel supporting. The tartness is balanced & folded-in nicely. The oaky wine must compliments the sweeter caramel malt. Some lacto sour at the end, but again, it is measured & not overwhelming. Didn't find any whiskey barrel notes but I wasn't missing its presence. All in all well-done sour, perhaps plays it too safe but certainly appreciate the restraint.

Moderate pop of the cork, pours a dark reddish brown with light tan head. Aromas of tartness & sweet caramel& wine barrel. Taste is not too sweet, not too sour, just right. Very mild funk, fruity plum flavor & toasted grain. Moderate carbonation. An excellent sour.
